Following. I have the same thing sometimes. Sounds more from in the dash than console though. Almost like I can hear it flowing thru the heater core.

My old thunder bird make similar sounds, ended up being an air pocket in the heater core. I'd check the coolant system for sure. Try and bleed any air out of it.

Mine happened after a radiator swap. Was a 97 Thunderturd.

Good luck in getting it figured out for sure though.

My coolant bottle is empty, the radiator is a little low and I thought I smelled coolant when I turned the heater on the first time in forever.

Heater core? How can it be bad in 7 years?

It is not normal, I would have your heater system checked out, especially if you are low on coolant & smelling it through your vents.

2010s have a history of heater core issues. And they're not easy to replace. Click on 'search' in the tool bar and just type heater core in the google search field and several threads will come up. There is also a TSB about it.

Depends.

If your car has been outside in the rain, it could just be water draining from the tray under the cowl when you accelerate.

If your heater is leaking, you will smell it.

I think all years of the gen 5 have a lot of heater core issues. My 14SS had to be replaced...thank goodness done under warranty. Was 2 weeks in the shop, removed the console and dash, need to remove windshield to get out dash unless you are creative but the dealer isn't. They broke my windshield removing it so had to replace it too. I think they told me it would have been $2300 if I had to pay for the repair.

Turns out there is also a TSB for gurgling sound in dash on startup.

GM recommends a one way valve be installed in the heater hose to keep the coolant from back flowing.

I know believe the heater core was damaged do to AIR in system.

Dexcool does not do well with oxygen present, thing corrode.

Wow, I'm bummed.
