Can someone explain how this whole allocation crap makes sense. please correct me if I’m wrong, but how fast I get my car concerns how many cars my dealership sells? This makes no sense. Shouldn’t it be first come first serve for people. I ordered my Camaro in July (right when the Transformers package was announced, in fact it had to be hand written onto my order sheet because it wasn’t in the system yet), and my order isn’t even at the plant yet. All I have is an order number and I’m told (by my dealer) that there is a good chance I wont get the transformers package because its going to take too long. Yet in the states, people who have ordered a month or so after I did already have they’re cars.
Plus GM personnel cant even give me a straight answer. I’ve been told my car is not going to be built at all, it’s a coin toss if it will get built and it will get built all by GM’s head office when they can actually find the fact that I’ve made an order. The other times I don’t exist in they’re system. Why is it that cars are being shipped out for inventory when people who have ordered them are waiting in line?! THIS MAKES NO SENSE! WHY GM?! WHY THE INSANITY?! Sorry for the rant but I’m getting sick of the crazy run around! |

Ok sorry about the rant, just frustrated with the whole situation of not knowing jack! The main question I have, is what is allocation, how do I get this magic number people seem to have and what does it mean?

first off, where are you at on your ordering? 1100 or 2000? if your not at 2000 then your dealer either has very little allocations or a long list of people in front of you waiting for one. Once your order is actually submitted to the plant (2000), your build time will only be around 6-8 weeks. I would highly advise you to look into another dealer possibly another state to get your transformers order in because it is in fact going away at the end of the year.

and to further answer, allocation is the dealers ability to submit an order to the GM plant where the car is being built. the order you place with the dealer is different from the order the dealer places for the car. allocation can varry for a number of reasons, dealers that sell more cars get more allocations. if you live in a very rural area where there may only be one dealer for many customers, the dealer is probably only going to get a few a month, and there is a high likelihood for a long waiting list. that's what takes the longest for most people, getting allocation.

The Allocation system is just smart business. Dealers who sale more cars get more allocations to order. It doesn't make since for a dealer that sold 1 Camaro in a month, to be able to order 20 Camaro's the next month.
Think of it as a football game. As a coach, would you give the ball for the winning touchdown, to the running back, who can never seem to score, or the ball to the one that has 20 rushing touchdowns? |

You may find out that dealer is one of the 5 targeted to close in the Lower Mainland and has little allocation left.

Thanks everyone,
I understand it alot more now. It looks like the last two Camaros have been delievered, I'll find out tommorow if mine has been accepted for production. I just wish someone from GM would have explained the system to me earlier. |
