What gives?

Went in to the dealership this morning for an oil change. I remind them that the LS3 requires 8 quarts. Upon completion, I ask if they put 8 quarts in, work order states 6. I have them check the oil before I leave the dealership, oil readings are fine. I drive it a couple of miles, no dummy lights or anything on, i stop to check it and it's fine. I check the oil again when I get home, still fine. Question is, I thought these LS3s required 8 quarts? Did the dealership not drain all of the 8 quarts out? I'll check it again before I fire it up again just to be on the safe side

8 quarts is correct. I’d rather do the oil changes myself than trust a dealership.
Another option is to find an independent shop to do your maintenance. My shop allows me to buy my own oil and filter all I pay is $20 for labor.

My invoices always state six. However, they do put in eight. They just do not charge me for the last two quarts.

This happened to me once before. The service advisor will note 6 quarts but the tech will put 8 quarts.

I’ve seen this too. The service software may only go up to 6. I always check the level before I leave the shop.

Dayum, I guess I need to start checking my invoices a little closer. And my dipstick.

Do you mean to tell me the dealerships software is read between the lines?
Outdated?

Some know,some don't. Just guess
And they are working on a car with 19 computers on it?
I'm dreading the day I get a bad software buggy problem on this car.
Who is going to work on these cars in 15 or 20 years?
Hopefully these highly intelligent tech savvy good people on this forum will help us.

20 years from now all people will have chips implanted in their heads with on board diagnostics, all you will have to do is put your finger in the cigarette lighter and you will know what is wrong.

I don't mind doing my own oil changes. I did one on my 10 SS before I traded it in on the 13. Only reason I took it in was because I received two complimentary oil changes wit the purchase of the car. I'm not sure these so called free oil changes are worth it with some of the stories that I've heard from people

The advisors don't know anything about your cars. I learned this many years ago with the Dodge dealers who didn't know to empty the water separator on my diesel at oil changes and wanted to start an argument about it.

Dang it, my dealer charges me for all 8qts of Mobile one. I better mention that all of the other dealers give 2qts for free!

I just got my 2nd free oil change at 1500 miles. They put in 10 quarts. Luckily my dealer is competent and mod friendly. They also let me supply my own oil and filter and will do the change for $15.
