Headin down to San Antonio .. Suggestions needed!!

Hey guys,
So me and my newly aquired girlfriend will be cruising down to San Antonio this coming Wednesday nite. We will be staying at the Hotel Contessa overlooking the riverwalk that evening.

Im looking for any and all suggestions for maybe some of the better shopping in the area and a nice romantic type restaurant along with some of comments on the night life for the area...only drawback is she is not of age (1 week away from turning 21) so we will have to make due. ( yes she still drinks )

We will be bringing the Camaro, she is dirty since ive been laid up after knee surgery, but I need to get her out and drive!!

So bring on the suggestions from the local or frequent visitors!

Thanks!

Shopping places:

The Rim over off 1604 and I-10
or
The Shops at La Cantera at 1604 and La Cantera Parkway.

And then there's always the Rivercenter Mall since you'll be downtown and everything...

As far as romantic dining is concerned, though, I may need to leave that up to the more cultured individuals on the boards. I know there's lots of places along the riverwalk, but it's all a matter of how much you want to spend

^What he said on shopping. People LOVE La Cantera. Outside shops, though...if you are up to the walking...

Food. Depends on your budget and taste. If you REALLY want to show her a nice dinner, there is an AWESOME steak place called Little Rhein Steak House. Dude....it's bad @ss. In fact, here's ur link! This place is right off the riverwalk. It's pricey, though. But, you can't go wrong....promise!

If you are in the mood for italian, check out paesano's restaurant on the riverwalk. This place is the BEST. If you go here, you have to ask about the "special salad" which is not on the menu. No, I'm not kidding...I know...you might think I'm pulling your leg or something. I'm serious as anything. It has tons of good stuff...ask your server...it's not on the menu. You will also have to try the "shrimp paesano." 5 prawn style shrimp over angel hair pasta (you'll have to ask for the angel hair pasta instead) with a lemon type sauce. Dude...trust me....it's another FAVORITE dish of mine. There's another Paesano's located at 555 E. Basse which I think serves better food...but, the one on the Riverwalk is right there...and will suffice. She would never know the difference (maybe you too...lol. My wife does....crazy).

If you feel like Tex-Mex, you would need to go for a drive...and it's not a bad drive at all. It's maybe a 10 minute drive from downtown. But, I used to work at this place (6 years as waiter, bartender, headwaiter, and finally 2 years as a manager) and it's called Pappasito's Cantina. People stop in here from ALL over the state. Here's where you would go. Again, GREAT food and atmosphere. EXCELLENT FOOD.

And, if you in the mood for seafood...there's only ONE place I recommend. That is Pappasito's sister store called Pappadeaux. Again, not far at all from downtown. Just check out this place right here. You'll love it! ...and get a swamp thing. Heck yeah.... Calamari is awesome, crawfish bisque is AWESOME....pappadeaux platter is AWESOME...and my wife gets the Mahi Alexander every single time we go. Yes, the sauce is also not on the menu. Another thing they can make....but took off the menu...beats me as to why. It's freakin' good.

So, we've covered Italian, seafood, tex mex..... hrm.... If you are in the mood for burgers, check out Chesters Burgers. There's one off IH-10 and another off Loop 410 NE at N New Braunfels. They have THE BEST BURGERS IN TOWN. Since you are on the riverwalk, you will be able to run down and get a map from your hotel lobby on what restaurants are where ON the riverwalk. They will gladly call in for you to make reservations or anything that you need. There's a ton of place down there you which you would be more than happy to go to. I'd suggest the ones above since it's more my style....of course. But, there's MANY other places too.

Hope you have a good one and let us know what happens!

TAG , Skooter....all I can say is ... DAMN!!
That is EXACLT the kind of list I was looking for!!

I am definately not trying to sound conceded at this point, but money is NO OBJECT when it comes to this girl..i will pay whatever, whenever. I say "newly aquired girlfriend" but we have been friends and spending time together for a long time and I can truly see myself marrying this one (never been married before so thats a lot for me to say)

TAG
we will most definately be hitting up Little Rhein or Paesano's for sure!

I'll second Pappasito's Cantina, especially the Diablo shrimp! Their salsa isn't bad either, but my homemade is still the best.

If you want a longer drive, head up to New Braunfels and choose from either The Grist Mill (with drinks at Gruene Hall next door) or Huische.

For shopping the Rivercenter Mall will be close but doesn't have the atmosphere as the Shops at La Cantera.

Most of all make sure you do the riverwalk at night since they should have the x-mas lights up and running, talk about romantic.

Have fun and be safe.

OOOOooh. I forgot ALL about the Christmas lights being up! I think we might have to make a trip down there ourselves. AWESOME lights. And the Grist Mill is great too. Will have to take the wife out there soon and do a B&B as well.
