Choosing a Cold Air Intake

A cold air intake is an expensive investment but is worth it, in looks, sound and performance. I thought I would share my experience for those who are considering purchasing one. Don't forget to consider the mods in your future when choosing your cold air intake. I installed the CAI cold air intake on my Camaro shortly after I purchased it. It had great reviews and I liked the looks. It performed great. Then I felt it was time for more horsepower, I was already cammed and began considering supercharging. I began to add up the costs for the install. The Magnuson Heartbeat was my choice. I called CAI about using their cold air intake with the Heartbeat. Great news, they told me the air tube could be trimmed and I would not need to spend money on a new cold air intake when the Heartbeat was installed, $400 saved. When the supercharger was installed I just wasn't seeing how it was going to work. CAI technical support again assured me it would fit but would require trimming on both ends. The air tube will not fit even when trimmed. I had to buy another cold air intake that would fit. I purchased a Rotofab cold air that fits properly with the Heartbeat. The Rotofab performs equally as well as the CAI. Now that the CAI intake air tube is cut up, I can't even sell it. I asked CAI if I could get another air tube since they advised me to trim it, they said they would. After waiting 3 months to get one, they called to tell me the shipping was free but the air tube was $125. I think they should do better than that. Anyway, both intakes perform well but Rotofab has intakes for more applications.

Cold air inductions told me the same thing about using their product with my Edelbrock Eforce SC! “No we don’t make one for your application but you can trim the tube to make it fit” I did not take them up on it. Still looking.

I've been using the Cold Air Inductions intake. After I installed my Magnuson SC I was able to order an adapter from the SC to the CAI that was a direct fit. Guess I got lucky. Love the CAI.

I have never looked back after installing the GM 'Z/28' CAI. No issues whatsoever and an OE part. Very effective and LOUD!

Thanks for your feedback on the Roto-fab system! We appreciate your business and support

I started this thread to remind everyone to consider their future mods when buying parts, to save yourself some money down the road. Money you can spend on more mods. In my case I ended up buying two cold air intakes because the first one I purchased would not fit when I added the supercharger. The CAI is a great cold air intake but did not fit the Heartbeat supercharger. Then, at the advise of CAI tech support, I trimmed the air tube attempting to make it fit and it became worthless to even resell. CAI contacted me yesterday to inform me they were shipping me a replacement air tube at no charge. That is great customer service !!! Way to go CAI !!!

I'm very happy with my Cold Air Inductions set up. Noticeable gains, easy to install, and looks great.
