Several issues - just waiting for more

Okay - so I have 6500 miles on my 2SS/RS (A6) - which by the way I am loving the car! So what is wrong with it - well, a couple things - some are actual issues that need fixed, some I am not sure if they are issues:

1. Tapping noise from passenger front at slow speeds - goes with speed of driving, doesn't matter if in neutral or drive. Reverse does the same, but just at speeds under 30mph. I wish I knew a certain fix to tell the dealer as it seems several people have had this issue but have had several "fixes". It really sounds like it is coming from the passenger front tire, but no rocks, etc. Oh - and can only be heard with the radio off.

2. A clanking noise which can be heard with the radio turned down or completely off. The clanking noise can actually be "FELT" in the emergency brake handle! I haven't seen anyone with this issue yet. It goes with the speed of the car and at any speed - and can always be felt through the e-brake. I tried slowing down with just the E a couple times and the clank remained there regardless of being pulled or not and same with hitting the brakes, clank remained.

3. Windows loose their indexing - this has happened probably 4 or 5 times now. Re-indexing isn't really an issue - but I did see that there was a bulletin put out with a new computer program needing to be put in for the motors. Just waiting to hear when this fix is available to the dealers.

4. Engine retards timing depending on gas - Okay, so we all know this issue and we know of the fix with the fuses. The problem I have is that it seems to do it from most gas stations I go to - I ALWAYS have put premium in and have NEVER put anything else - and only 93 octane, I make a point to find a gas station with 93 octane. What do I have to do to avoid the retarded timing? I have to fill my tank with premium and then go and buy Octane booster and Water remover Then I get away without having to pull the fuses at any point.

5. Something on the inside of the driver door panel rubs against my glass - whenever I put it down or up there is a streak left about 4 inches from the front (engine side) of the glass on the inside. Passenger side does not do this. It doesn't appear to be scratching, but eventually it will wear it down and I want to get it fixed before I get my windows tinted.

6. Tap Shift has extreme delay (I do NOT know if this is an issue) - it seems that the delay on the tap shift is way too long. When speeding up, if I hit the tap shift say at 4k RPMs it takes until 4.5-4.8k to shift - then the actual shift takes a while (seems like granny shifting a manual) then kicks in HARD - throw you back hard (I like this part, just wish everything was quicker) - let me know if this is an issue or if they are all like this.

7. Remote Start only seems to work about 10 feet away. Doors will lock and unlock from a lot farther but remote start seems to only work when close (almost pointless as far as warming the car up in the winter without having to go almost to it first).

8. Engine CANNOT cool down. This is not an actual issue that a dealer will fix, but I have a BIG issue with it. Idle and engine gets up to 225 (even on a 40 degree day) can only seem to cool it down to 198. Makes for a big problem at the track - 198 degree will run 13.3, 212 will run 13.9, 220+ is in the mid to high 14s. Sucks - gonna fix with a 160 degree thermo and changing the fan timing which shouldn't void any warranty as far as I know because it can't directly cause an issue.
Fixed heat issue with the 160 degree and changing the fans. Refuses to go over 198 now but typically stays in the 170s to 180s.

9. Sluggish acceleration - I believe this is normal on all A6s and maybe all of the 2010 camaros in general due to the coasting/slowing down turning off the fuel injectors. So if you slow down and then hit on the gas it takes a good while to kick over. Let me know if this is not normal, but I hate it.

10. Have to lower my seat to put a helmet on at the race track (had to get 10 )

New Items I forgot about

11. (Technically #10 lol) - Carpet wasn't installed properly - passenger side the carpet is literally an inch away from the plastic piece at the feet - not too happy about this.

12. (Technically #11) - Grinding noise when turning sharp - both forward and back (how could I forget this one)

13. (Technically .... okay you get it) Nice foot plate or whatever it is called at the bottom of where the door is (see it when you open) - think it says camaro lol maybe Chevrolet - anyway, it is starting to peel off on the passenger side - worst part is I rarely have passengers so the door is shut, it isn't like its getting beaten or anything, just bubbling up and coming off *sigh*

14. Trunk sometimes doesn't want to open

15. Passenger air bag detector is a little bit sensitive - put my laptop in the passenger seat and it turns the air bag on (don't really need to protect my laptop with an air bag)

16. Okay - this technically isn't a problem - but has anyone noticed that all of the fuses are always on in the fuse box...wtf

17. Possible blown rear main seal. When installing exhaust noticed oil between engine and tranny. Cleaned off hoping it does not come back and that it was residue from an oil change. I typically wipe it down pretty good so I am fearing the worst right now. Not enough to cause a drip under the car though.

I think that is everything

#5...mine does that too.

#8...if you haven't removed your engine cover you might want to. It will help with removing some of the heat.

4, 6, 8 and 9 can be fixed with getting the ecm and tcm tuned

I did remove my engine cover - didn't help much at all - I had a buddy there with his 2010 Camaro, his engine temp held with mine - he had his cover on, mine was off.

Did you ever get the #1 issue fixed? If so what was the resolution?

I am planning on getting the HPTuners tuner and taking care of at least the fan times. I am still a little hesitant on tuning other things while under warranty. I know fan times can't void warranty on anything since all it does is help the engine run cooler and doesn't directly impact anything mechanical.

not really, you alter anything in the ecm or tcm even if it is just the fan on time and you can void your warranty

Yup. They don't know what you changed, they just know you changed something. (if they check/find out).

No not yet, weather isn't cooperating up here in Alberta.
If I get a nice day I will try to get her into the dealership to see if it is just a heat shield, and to see what the dealer says about the other stuff.

Asked my dealer about it and he said when brought in for anything major they check to see if there were modifications made to the ecm/tcm. If there are, then they have to check the modifications and make sure that it could have actually caused the malfunction to begin with. I asked if I changed when the fans came on if it would be an issue and he said at most it'd just take their time to check the numbers and make sure nothing else was changed, otherwise it won't affect anything. Although I have heard that sometimes it depends on the dealer.

#6 I am assuming this is the same tranny as on the G8 and it shifted the same way. Even with a tune it will still shift this way, granted it should be quicker but still not immediately. Alot of the guy's still complained about it but once I drove the car for a few month's I could shift it perfectly, you just need too learn when too do it. I really wish I had that tran's in my Stang.

I believe you just need to do the 5, 20 fuse pull. See sticky. Those A6's
are anything but sluggish after this fix was found.
