2010 V6 / RS Brake Replacement ?
I think it's well time for a brake/rotor replacement (50k miles and MANY 140+ back to 65 braking situations) and I was curious what you guys here recommend? I'm on a budget but definitely need something decent...
Is it hard to self-install? I've done disc brakes on my 92 silverado but that's about it. |

I see there have been 50 views but no responses so I'll share my experience.
I have a 2011 2LT RS. I changed the brakes pads quite a few times and it is pretty easy, I have no training and just watched some youtube videos and read the how-to's on Camaro5. Off the top of my head, I think there is just one bolt that holds the pad in place, the caliper will open and the pads can slide out. As for the rotors, there are two bolts to take the caliper off and a torx (T-30 I think) holding the rotor in place. You will only need a few basic hand tools to get the job done. I have been using EBC pads in all my cars for a long time (red or yellow stuff). I once tried Powerstop ceramic pads and I hated them. However, for rotors I use R1 or Powerstop, I shop around for deals and felt those companies make good products for the price paid. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask. |

Morris Engineering and Powerstop high carbon track day rotors are good replacement options.

I think you will find changing just the pads an easy task. As one other member said there is a Video on YouTube that shows the entire sequence. Also of note; if you have to remove the rotors/replace them you "should" purchase new caliper bolts. Each caliper has two bolts holding it in place. These bolts are referred to a "torque to yield" bolts". Meaning one time use. The threads on these bolts can easily become stretched and potentially fail. I know there are some that say just add some lock tight and you will be OK, for the 3 or 4 dollars for each bolt I will change them.
