OEM cats w Kooks headers/Corsa catback?

afternoon.

I recently moved to Colorado, and the emissions testing here is insane in the Denver area.

Currently I am running Kooks headers, Hi-Flow cats, and Corsa catback.

Talking with the shop I'll be using, he says that they tend to recommend folks in my position installing the OEM cats instead of the Green cats that Kooks manufactures.

Looking at pics of the OEM setup, I have no idea how this would even be possible, so I'm asking the knowledgeable folks here. The OEM cats would only be on for emissions testing, then after successful completion of the testing, I'd throw my hi-flows back on.

Also, the OEM cats look expensive af...I mean the Kooks Green cats are 1k, but I'm seeing closer to 1200 as the going rate for a set of OEMs...

Any thoughts? Anyone actually have experience? Would like a little insight...

thanks!!

A bit of advice, go to a different shop. The people giving you advice there don't know what they're talking about. OEM cats will not fit long tube headers.

On a side note, I've passed strict emissions standards in PA with headers and high flow cats (and a tune). Not Kooks green cats, their normal ones. If CO has similar emissions standards to PA you should be fine.

Perhaps they are saying to remove the kooks headers and hiflow cats and install oem manifolds and cats for inspection.

This is what I was thinking, thus my confusion hahaha

What other mods do you have, and how did you need an "emissions" tune, as well as a regular one, or were you able to pass without having to lean out?

I'm concerned that between my cam, compression, and displacement that I'm gonna have a helluva time trying to get my car passed....low compression 416 build w ported heads, blower cam, etc

Oh well, guess I'll figure it out one way or another haha...worst case I change my registration address to a family member in TX and just make the drive to the state line somewhere and get the inspection

I don't have an emissions tune, just a tune that was designed to pass PA inspections and optimize the car's performance. They have hooked my car up to the sniffer and it has passed. Now, I am not nearly as modified as you are with a stroker build. I am a full bolt on car for now, but I know others who are far more "built" than my car and still pass in PA.
