Need axel-back reccomendations:
So,
I decided to take the plunge and get an axel-back exhaust for my 2011 2SS. At the moment the two I'm looking at are Flowmaster Outlaw and Flowmaster American Thunder. I'll preface this with I know next to nothing about the actual function, parts, etc. of vehicles. I just like cars and driving them, so sorry if this post comes off as stupid. However, with my limited experience with this stuff Flowmaster was the only company I knew to look at. I would love it if my car had sort of the 1960's/1970's muscle car, deep hum, growling engine sound. Sort of the 'wong, wong, wong, crackle' noise like an old Chevelle makes when it's idling. I don't know if either of these Flowmasters are the best exhausts for achieving that(to whatever closeness you can even get a modern car to sounding like that legally, i.e. muffler deletes, etc. are illegal in my state) Any suggestions? |

Both are very good choices. You may get drone at highway RPMs. If this happens and you hate it you can have j pipes added to your axle back to eliminate it.

Outlaw is my preference and I do run it in a 3" catback with long tubes with no cats and cam with 112+4 LSA sounds wicked

I have the Flowmaster Outlaws and love them...Super deep tone, nice bit of decel pop and rumble.
BUT, and that is a big but, they drone like mad if you have any other exhaust modifications done already. I imagine if you are still running stock manifolds and cats, you will have little to no drone, but if running headers? Yup, at highway speed near 2k rpm, the drone is ridiculous. But the way these things howl when nearing 3k rpm is freakin amazing. You are going to get drone with any Flowmaster product. They engineer their products to sound amazing. That's it. No thought seems to be put into NVH suppression. Now this can all be eliminated with a set of J-Pipes, but by that time you are starting to get nearer to Corsa/Solo or Stainless Works pricing, which are drone free by design. Sorry I don't have any good clips, just a cold start clip, no revving at all. Plus, this was a year ago, when they were brand new and not 'broken in'. So they may sound a bit different now. I also had no tips at the time, as you may see.

Posted before but have had a “slight” change of heart. There is absolutely nothing wrong with how these straight pipes sound but in some ways I guess I wish I had something shiny under there.

I heard the SLP Loudmouth 1 axle back exhaust in person and it sounds really good if you like your exhaust to sound really loud.
