Brake piston damage opinions

I used compressed air and one piston popped out which resulted in me fighting the next 3. I know what I have to do now and I’m only worked my on this one first. Got all new seals ordered. The damage is clearly from me prying on the piston. But the tool marks seem to only be in the portion of the piston that won’t touch any seals or dust boots. So I’m assuming I’m good?

Personally, I don't fudge on brakes. Too important to my safety and others around me. It really does suck though.

still you could de-burr the scratches a little with a fine file. But I use my Local Les Schwab tire centers here in the N.W. for rebuilt calipers with brake jobs if needed. I have a account for tires and brakes etc.... so comes in handy.......especially modding the suspension also.

Looks like I’m buying a caliper from a member on here that’s missing bolts and stuff so I’ll take the pistons out of that and put into my current caliper. No sense in risking it. And do the job right do it once. Cars already down, might as well make sure I do it correctly now.

You can buy Pistons kits from Rock Auto.

Agree ... I would buy some new pistons to go along with the new seals.

Quit prying on sh!# with screwdrivers. If you learn that one thing, and live by it, you'll save from ham-boning your whole car and everything else you work on.
