Kooks header gaskets

To all with Kooks headers.... Did you use the supplied gaskets or something else? When I put Kooks on my 09 Challenger, I was warned to NOT use the supplied Kooks gaskets...

No...DO NOT use the Kooks gasket. Your stock gasket is a multi layer steel gasket that is reusable. I have reused the one on my GTO (same part) through 6 header installs (we have done a lot of tests). Throwing a way a fine multi layer steel gasket and replacing it with a carbon one is not good in any application. One top of not being as durable, the carbon one will leave crap all over your head that needs to be cleaned off if you ever replace your headers again. The metal one will not.

Everytime a customer calls us complainling about a leak, it always turns out they used the Kooks gasket.

I have talked to Kooks about the issue, and what it boils down to is, if they include GM gaskets, the headers would cost $20 more. They think it's better to save the $20 because the stock gasket is fine to reues many times.

Do you have to put anything on the gaskets or just leave them plain as is

LOL....That's awful that people spend that kind of money only to not use the supplied gasket....(which happens to be junk...)

Interesting to say the least.

Great info but, it would have been nice to have known this before I installed the Kooks.
