Talking Just Installed the SS mufflers on my V6

I was looking for a way to upgrade the look from those smaller V6 exhaust tips to the more muscular 4" SS tips while still maintaining the stock look. I saw a pair of SS mufflers available at Ebay and I decided to buy them, mainly for the look. I thought that the mufflers would be basically the same, with the only difference being the tip size. Boy was I wrong! There is definitely allot less restriction on the SS mufflers and they weigh less too. The SS exhaust tips not only look way better, but the sound and tone has changed allot. It sounds louder more muscular with a rumble and a growl. LOl

By the way these muffllers are off an L99 Automatic trany SS according to the seller wich was a GM dealer, they had aroud 500 miles on them so they're still braking in. I can tell by the smell that they're still braking in. I expect them to develop a even deeper tone when they're boken in like my original ones that had aroud 3,800 miles on them.

At the begining of the video is getting reved from 3-5K towards the end I have my friend rev it to about 3500. At bit raspy around 5k but I think I'll tone down after some carbon deposit after another 3k miles or so.

I will post some Videos when I get a chance.
Well that's thinking outside the box. May I ask what you paid for the mufflers?

Good idea! A V8 flows a LOT more gas than a V6, so you should have gotten a bit less restriction too.

The SS exhaust flows through 2.5" pipes instead of the 2.25" pipes on the V6. That may have helped a bit too. Did you replace the entire exhaust with the SS setup or just use adapters to make jump from 2.25" to 2.5" at the mufflers?

This is an old trick that the V6 Mustang guys have been doing for years. They just use take off exhausts from the GT models when guys upgrade to aftermarket kits.

I didn't actually think it would make much of a difference with the Camaro though since the two systems are pretty close in size and design.

Just make sure the SS exhaust doesn't end up any closer to the plastic trim than the original. You risk causing some very unfortunate meltage.

Nice thing about the 2005+ Mustangs is the mufflers are simply bolted on! No cutting to switch from the stock V6 muffler to a take-off GT muffler... simply unbolt and swap mufflers! The V6 Mustang muffler was incredibly restrictive... swapping to a GT muffler was about a 10 RWHP GAIN!!

before they welded it on I make sure that it fits perfectly in the center.

That's good that they are centered, but is any part of the exhaust closer to the trim than it was before?

Why would this be an issue? The stock SS exhaust exits through the same size holes in the rear diffuser so putting the SS tips through the holes on a V6 diffuser shouldn't be a problem as long as they are centered.

Now, in my case, I've got 4.5" tips (vs. the 3.75" tips of the stock SS) with the SOLO Mach XL kit so there is very little clearance going through the diffuser but I'm not having any issues with melting anything after having driven a few hundred miles.

The muffler I bought had about 2" worth of piping so the muffler shop streched it out a bit and sleaved it over the original piping on my V6 and welded it on. The whole thing took no more that 20 minutes. Faster that my last oil change Lol
