Going by the NHTSA the camaro has a better safety rating than the challenger. Although the challenger has a lot more interior room and if you get one with the backup camera the screen size is really nice if your looking for that kind of feature.

An 80's Caprice Classic. 16 year olds are going to hit stuff. Why not let them hit stuff in a car with steel bumpers and a super comfy seat?
Personally, if the only two choices I had were Challenger or Camaro for a 16 year old, I'd probably choose Challenger. The inexperienced driver blind spots are less, the power to weight ratio is worse, and the interior is bigger so they can fit more high schooler's junk in it (hopefully not boys). BTW, welcome to the forums!

Personally, I'd recommend the Challenger. It's bigger and slower, so she'll learn to drive without learning to race.

The Challenger is more refined and has a nicer overall ride when used a daily driver. It also seemed to be put together nicer than the Camaro in terms of fit/finish/driver to car interface. I don't recall any obstructed views of any gauges. It also has nicer convenience/electronic features. It was what I thought a modern muscle car would be. That was my first impression after I drove my friends v8 Challenger.
I am a bit jealous as I think the Camaro could have been a bit more refined in numerous areas. The Camaro is musclecar-ish all the time whereas the Challenger comes alive when stomping on the go pedal but drives like a BMW when you're not. That's both good and bad depending on what you like. I would get a Challenger for my kid if it were me, only because it's different and it's nice to mix it up every now and again. Keep in mind my comments do not address the performance aspect of these cars, only the drive ability. |
