NJ Inspection, LT's, and tunes

So I've been going back and forth between shorty headers and Lt's. My number 1 concern was failing emissions due to relocation of cats, and tuning out a possible cel caused by the long tubes. I just got back from a local gas station that is an independent NJ state inspection location and was told it wouldn't be a problem. They do not use a sniffer test on newer cars. They do plug into the OBD port and check for cel's. As long as their is none, you'r O.K. They occasionaly do a visual inspection for the cats and if they are there it would pass. As far as a performance tune which would also turn off a possible cel from relocation of high flow cats, they can't detect that or any tune for that matter. I guess I'll be going the long tube route when the time is right and hopefully this will help anybody else who is trying to decide between the two.

Thank you. I will be moving to Bergen County, NJ (Paramus area) early next year. And planning on ordering a 2SS/RS in Feb, so I can get delivery until June.
This is good information. Thank you.

I am debating the same issue, your post makes me feel a little better about going the longtube route. As long as you tune the CEL codes out you should be fine,I hope.

Hopefully things don't change between now and inspection time 4 years down the road. Funny thing is that I've been using this same gas station for years with my daily driver, an 06 Tacoma and nobody ever noticed me. Pull in the first time with the Camaro and everyone there surrounds the car. The owner, the mechanics, other people getting gas. Got to know the owner and I didn't know until today that they are an inspection center. Figured before I did something I might regret later, I'd run it past him to make sure. Now I just have to save a little dough and I'm off to Jannetty Racing.

+1 Just got a quote for 1 7/8 ARH headers with highflow cats from Jennetty.. 1495.00 "But could change for the better" I was told. When I get some extra cash, say around tax return time I'll probably go for it.. In the mean time still undecided on intake.. Either Vararam, or ADM street, or Roto-fab I don't know.. Getting the Diablo predator soon, hopefully with a custom tune downloaded from Jennetty after my header install.. That's my plan

Looks like we're going the same route. I got my Trinity last week and just finished installing the ADM street intake. Unfortunately it's pouring out so I couldn't really test out the intake. Took it out just to make sure everything was OK but got to much tire spin with little throttle. Tomorrow I hope will be better. Headers are next.

As long as the CE light is off AND the Readiness Monitors are set ... You should be fine with the Diablo . If not come on down and we'll dyno tune it ... it will pass ...
