Permagrin changed to frown - they broke into my car this morning

Hello everyone. I've been coming to these boards for months now, but never posted. What surprised me was how passionate everyone was about this car, which helped fuel my own obsession.

BACKGROUND

Not that it should matter, but being asian, no one in my family had ever purchased an American car; most of my friends also drive imports. Heck, my previous car was a zippy Mazda Protege5 hatch (great car). But it was time to move on to bigger and better things.

I placed my order around Labor Day, without even able to test drive it. Less than 2 weeks ago, after months of waiting, I picked up my new Rally Yellow 2LT. It exceeded my expectations on almost every level. Permagrin was in effect, big time. In fact, I was cleaning it up/waxing/detailing it practically every night since the weather here has been disgusting since I bought it.

And here I am posting for the first time; I wish it was under better circumstances.

WHAT HAPPENED

I had gone over to the other building on the site this morning to assist with a tech demo. I usually always park in the parking garage. When I came back out 1.5 hours later, I saw the two security guys parked near my car, standing there looking at it. I thought, "Hey look, some more people admiring the car. I'll open it up and let them sit in it!"

"Hello guys, how's it going?"

"Hello sir, it looks like someone broke into your car."

I turned to look. It felt like something else shattered at that moment to match the glass bits on the ground... probably my spirit.

I definitely messed up by not putting away my radar detector (which the thief took). I thought, I was at work at a large tech company where there were multiple security patrol vehicles circling all the time... I would be safe. I was wrong.

DAMAGE AND AFTERMATH

Other than the smashed window, there are scratches on the door paint from the glass shards, a scratch on the plastic panel where the shift diagram is, a tear in the passenger weather stripping near the side view mirror, and multiple little nicks on the dash and elsewhere. And of course, tons of glass bits everywhere.

I'm surprisingly calm; spent the last few hours sorting out the insurance, police report, etc. At least I still have the car; they could have stolen it or something.

So yep. Hello everyone.

It's good to see that you're okay. A radar detector is a stupid reason to smash a window, but some jerks will do it anyway. Get another one and hide it. I'm sure this experience will have you very careful anyway.

I'm so sorry man. It's rough dealing with the people that are out there these days.
I had a Camaro broken into in my driveway once. They didn't get it ,but they tore up the steering column.

OMG. I would faint.

I am sorry. Some people just can't handle other people being happy.
Hopefully it all gets fix, and soon.

Hello and welcome to the 'family'...that being said, I am so very sorry for you...your car looks amazing, and I hope you get it fixed 'good as new' very soon...:(

We're here for ya...let us know how your car is after it gets fixed...

I had a brand new '76 Firebird (pic in my avatar) that was broken into right in front of the apartment building I lived in at the time, and they stole my 'brand new radio'...I still remember how bad I felt 'to this day'...

Thank goodness they didn't vandalize your 'baby' further...it could have been much worse...good luck to ya...

That might go down as the most depressing first post I've seen on Camaro5.

Welcome to the sight. Very sorry your car was damaged.

It's a shame that leaving anything visible in your car makes it a target.

Wow just wow there are some real tools in this world. Sorry about your luck man ;o( Because the car is so new and the fact its yellow i live by 2 rules right now. Park my car only in my garage and 2 park my car only in my garage. Until people start saying "oh its just the new camaro seen lots of them" mine does not see public parking.

Sorry man, you should invest in an alarm. The factory one is worthless in any area where break-ins happen. Not having a glass break sensor is a major oversight. I have a proximity sensor on mine to discourage vandals and other things to slow thieves and aid in recovery.
