Blend door with dash removal side effects
Hello everyone!
I spent a few weeks reading up and looking into YouTube and various forums on how to fix the heater blend door to my 2012 Camaro 2SS. I was able to do the project over a weekend and have pictures of my experience. It was quite an undertaking. Now the heater/AC work perfectly but I do have some side effects. I know there are many posts on this forum on how to accomplish this, I’m not a mechanic nor claim to be but I like projects. And I don’t recommend cutting into your car haha. Everything on my steering column does not have power. No horn, radio controls, dash sensors going off. I have attached a couple photos and will be happy to provide any more info. Just need some ideas where to start looking. Is there a ground wire that would control all of this if I didn’t hook it up correctly or does something need to be reset, etc. Thanks for any and all input! -Sean Last edited by PrimeTime30; 05-07-2019 at 08:01 PM. Wow, that looks frightening!
The airbag message suggests that the problem may be in the steering wheel...at least that would be the first place to look for a loose connector or pinched wires. But I have to ask, did you disconnect the battery before starting this job? |

I agree with Rockit Man. Did you allow at least 15 minutes after disconnecting the battery before removing the airbag? That's about the only thing I can think of, just because the air bag is on. And since you removed the seat, I believe you have to do the same for that. Wait until all power is drawn out of the sensors before disconnecting.

Yes, I disconnected the battery. Was they first thing I did when starting and the last thing to go back when I finished. Realllly didn’t want a blown airbag to the face when removing it from the steering wheel

Double check the grounds and the fuse block drivers side grounds. Loose grounds can cause that...

Dude, I got no help for your codes. But I have to salute you for undertaking this repair. What a massive and complicated job! No wonder the stealers quote something like $1800 to do this repair. Thx for the pics and insight. I pray my mix door/flapper never fails while I own my 2012.
Oh and good luck resolving all of your issues after the fact. |

Also check to make sure that the connectors under the seats are properly seated... there are airbags there also that might be causing issues.

I’ve been told through the summer months to either use my heater for a few minutes every couple weeks or spin the dial to the middle of hear and cool to keep it from closing and melting (which causes the piece to fail when it turns)

When I road race in the summer, I crank the heat up and blower full blast — vent out drivers vent — helps cooling and cycles heater too...

Solved! I had destroyed the clock spring. Didn’t set it before putting it in and turned the wheel tearing it apart. Picture added at the bottom of the page.
