Help with short block selection...

So I spun a rod bearing.... tore motor apart everything else looks ok. I would like to reuse my stock ported heads and TSP stage 4 cam 235/239.

For the time and money I was looking at the 427's... jegs and summit has them for $5k... in stock. Any reason not to pull the trigger?

Or... build a 418 with my block, save a little money... but its going to take more time.

Buy a 418 from TSP... but these are more $ than the 427 and will take a couple weeks.

What should I do?

(No nitrous or FI)

It just seems like but the time I have my block cleaned, honed and assembled with the stroker rotating assembly.... wouldn't I be better off just buying the 427... and it comes with a warranty....???

the only issue i would see is that its not a "real" LS7 427. GM got that cubic inch by going with a 4.125 bore

a 4.125 stroke like the one that im assuming you're looking at may not live as long as you'd expect it to. a 416-418 will live a lot longer.

the piston speed in a 427-429 LS3 will become an issue. That why i would stay with a 4.000 stroke

yeah its the same one. all those come from scroggin dickey if im not mistaken.

I would't go with that big of a stroke on a stock LS3 block. But thats just me

my thinking is: "why pay for another LS3 block and have that prepped when i already have the LS3 block and can just pay to have IT prepped"

i don't mind spending the money if i absolutely need to. But i already bought an LS3 block from GM when i bought the car so if its still good, i would just have that prepped and get a 416/418 kit and put it together myself.

Your right... I'm just impatient... if I could find a 418 for $5k that ships tomorrow I'd do it.

Im still on the fence...

You should be able to sell your old shortblock to make up for shipping and extra cost
