Changing from Euro mirrors to US...

Hi all - just wondered if anyone on here has changed their Euro 'Dumbo'-mirrors to the US original style ones, and if so how difficult was it?

wow i just looked at the euro mirrors and they are huge i would ditch them also.
i love the tail lights.
removing the door cards takes 10 min if you go slow, peal back the inner black rubber membrane and i assume there is more than likely 2 10mm nuts, remove them and it should come right off should take a hour to fit them.

Remember to make sure you buy the heated version if going second hand on ebay US.

You will need to replace your indicator side marker to be UK legal

I'm thinking that the bodies/housings are all the same no, it's the glass that's different? That being the case it shouldn't be too hard to find a 2nd hand body and then Rockauto for the glass? using the Euro electricals?

no sir the housing on the uk version is not the same. i don't see why you couldn't add a turn signal led to the us version. the us has the objects are closer than they appear on the rt side.

my apologies - poorly worded by me! I meant to ask if the housing for the heated mirrors are the same as the housing for the non-heated ones - only the glass and wiring being different.

I'd imagine that the Euro-spec mirrors being all heated and electric would have all the correct wiring in place..... or is assumption the mother of all f-ups?

If you mean the glass with the built in amber arrows I'm afraid they won't comply with UK light legislation, see picture for UK requirements.

I have my front amber marker lights wired in with a module so they flash with the turn signals as well as illuminate as marker lights.
They just about pass the UK tests, but some examiners will fail as seeing it flash in the area shown is questionable.

Many here take the easy option of just drilling the fender and adding a repeater, others are more discrete with a LED mounted in the mirror housings

I'd imagine that if you remove the UK mirror and source US ones it shouldn't be that difficult to drill/fit a small orange LED in the US housing to take a power feed from the UK mirror loom? Watching with interest as now I've got a double-width garage door I can get mine in without folding the UK mirrors in - be nice to have the US mirrors on mine too.
