ZL1 Addons front splash guard installation clip...
Hi,
i just received my ZL1 addons front splashguard. I wanted to go with the ACS one but I dont want to drill holes on my inner fender... not on a car slightly more expensive than my annual salary... ZL1 Addons states that they used existing OEM mounting point, that was the selling feature for me. When I opened the package and looked at the instruction, it comes with "specially designed" clip to offer a stronger installation but the freakin clip are METAL and they are to be slided in the inside of your fender with pointy edges that will dig into the surface they are slided on to prevent loosing up. Digging means it will scratch inside the fender and expose bare metal so it will eventually rust because this is where all water will go when using the car in the rain. Question is do I really need the clips installed or just the lower mounting hole with the plastic pin and the 3M VHB tape will be enough? It seems the first version of the design did not used any clip..... I am not going to use those clips, bad engineering, I will return these if the tape is not strong enough..... Thanks |

I used the clip.... also added a secondary strip of tape as well. I'm sure you could ditch the clip with more tape. ZL1addons are a great company. First week I had them the wife nailed a rabbit an broke one, asked the company to buy just a single guard and they sent me a whole kit!

I am tweaking them on 1 side I have smoothed out both side teeth so it is not going to bite inside my fender, and I left them on the side to bite on the plastic of the splash guard.
They should not move and stay there with only the ouside bitten on the splashguard. Call me OCD but I will put a coat of 3M transparent shipping tape on the inside of the clip so at least its going to be plastic rubbing on metal instead of metal to metal.... I think its going to work out.... |

I had the same thought when I installed mine. I did it anyway, I’m surprised my OCD allowed me to. Hahaha.
Too late now for me to worry about it.

Looks good! Kind of wish they were a little wider. Anyone have any experience with these on a ZLE?

They do a good job on a zle. Not too difficult to install...maybe an hour without lifting the car. At first i wished they were a little wider, but currently they seem to be saving the rockers and quarter panels which were annihilated on my white ss i had before the zle. Couple the rock guards with ppf in high impact areas and street tires, my paint is thanking me every day. Lol.

No. They adhere to the car. The front is a bit easier than the rear since you can turn the wheel.
Shouldn't take an hour unless you give the entire car a wash. Just a simple wash of the area where it's going and less than 30 minutes if you're doing front and rear. Maybe even less than 20 minutes |
