bbk shorty chrome headers

Long time reader on this forum, first time posting.
I was wondering if anybody has tried theses headers on their '10 camaro, i haven't seen any posts about it, but i see you can get them through jegs or auto anything for $299.00,. So hows the fit and craftmanship?
totally off subject here but i took a pair of tweezers and removed the sticker in the center of my SS emblems to find out their is another black sticker under it, since my camaro is black it worked out pretty good for me! I see you can buy a black SS sticker, but why bother doing that when one already exists? anyone who wants a black SS I thought this info could be useful. I have a 1SS with white in the center of the emblems, and what a pleasent surprise to find black underneath!!! maybe the RS is the same way? anyways great forum!! very helpful in tracking my car! and good info!!

I ran BBK longtube headers on my 04 Mach 1 and my friends all had BBK's on their GT's back in the day. Dont let the low price fool you, they are made good. Mine and my friend's all fit w/o any problems. Worked just as good as a set of headers twice the price. The only thing I would consider is that those with the $299 tag probably arent ceramic coated... probably just chromed. This will make about 10-15 degrees more of underhood heat, which isnt a huge deal. Not to worry, you can buy some cheap headers w/o ceramic coating and send them to www.jet-hot.com for a kickass coating. Or just find someone locally as it isnt rocket science. Other option is to just use header wrap... works just as well if not better than ceramic coating.

I had a different experience with BBK chrome shorties on my Mustang a few years back. They chromed them up so good, I couldn't get my egr tube in because the filled up the threads. Also the welds were huge on the insides where the tubes attach to the flanges, it looked like more of a restriction than the stockers to me. Should have sent them back but didn't. I will never buy shorties again. BBK claimed 15hp gains, I gained a whopping 0 hp on the dyno...but my own fault, like I said, I should have sent them back. If you want hp gains go longtubes.

I see you live in CA, so I'm assuming that's why you want shorties. Having seen that, I'd say do some searching and see what dyno' gains have been. I've seen at least a couple dyno' results for shorties here; some better than others. That's a great price, but unless you're looking to have better looks or just to say you have headers, it's probably better to stay away from shorties. If you are doing it for smog (and legal) compliance, that's a different matter - shorties (and they HAVE to have CARB-numbers on them or they aren't LEGAL) are your only choice :(

I know that there were some pretty impressive gains on some 1 3/4" shorties that BBK was developing several years ago for LS1-Camaros, but I could never find a follow-up to it, nor did I even notice CARB-exemption for them. I believe BBK makes good products, and have had a few in the past, but do some more research; make sure you're going to get what you're expecting

Thanks For the info, they claim 25hp but i'd like to see a dyno result on that! as far as Ca. emissions I don't really care, i will reregister the car in Alaska, it's just the price that has me tempted to buy. Everything for sale for the camaro is priced high, you'd think it was gold plated! i hope the prices start to drop soon, this is one of the rare deals i've seen.

IMVHO - if price is the main concern, save some money and get some good LTs. I know they're in the order of almost sometimes five-times as much, however, most of the time, you get what you pay for. If you're looking for the best power, best quality, and to do LTs only once, save the money for some quality stainless ones. There are several out there, including BBK, if I remember correctly. I've installed LTs a dozen times on my '02, and can tell you that although it was easier everytime I did it, I was less enthused about doing it the more I did it. They'll make your car sound great, and really, I don't think they're going to do anything as far as sacrificing and longevity. I'd also suggest making sure you have the money for a good dyno' tune by a tuner who knows what they're doing.

Again, the only reason I'm going with shorties is because of CARB-numbers and I'll pay $500+ for ones that I know perform and are of high quality.

I know I a guy in Oceanside that can get you JBA LTs(6812S) for $700
and the Shorty(1812S) for $450 plus shipping. You pay no sales tax because it comes from Las Vegas. I'll give the info to whoever is comitted to buy. The price is unbeatable and this guy a good friend so I don't like to throw his info around to window-shoppers. I hopw that didn't come out wrong, but I think that nobody likes getting bombarded with phone calls from people with empty promises.

I'm thinking I would want to still pass a smog test. I have a diablo tuner so LTs I could deal with. I have a expensive list of things to get already, definately alot of crap to remove from the exhaust. I am planning on leaving 1 set of cats and going with an axle back and a x-pipe in place of the h-pipe and most likely the shorties I think. I can do this myself and will be more bang for my buck.

Just make sure you get some quality cats'. Most of the aftermarket ones don't clean the exhaust as well as the OEM cats', and you're eliminating a pair, too, so make sure you get some good ones; I think the newer metallic ones are the best at this point; not the ceramic ones so much.
