Hood Scoops

Was wondering...

Are there risks such as debree/rain getting in through a hood scoop on aftermarket hoods?

If so, would mesh covers do much aside from stopping maybe debree... What about rain? That going to cause problems later? What measures should be taken if so to prevent rain/water from causing any problems in the future.

Asking more specifically in regards to the Revolution styling hood design.

They should be installing drip trays underneath that will channel the water back to the firewall. That what the body shop did for mine.

That is a valid point many consumers neglect to consider when purchasing a replacement hood.

At ACS we design and manufacture a family of hoods for various aftermarket and OE companies. In order to comply with OE standards we do need to design a water management system in our hoods. We do follow the same design standards for OE customers and aftermarket companies. As you can imagine this does require an important investment in design and testing, very well worth it when you consider what is at stakes ! A prime example of this is Nickey's new Stinger II Hood. Below is an image explaining how the system works.

Another point to consider is also the safety aspect of the hood..... internal hardware design, material consistency, over all strength and even weak points in the hood which come into play in the event of a collision. But I guess this is something we can discuss in another thread.

Hope this helps!

I also pm'ed you a link with more details.
