ZL1 Fuel Octane

Hey Guys,

I have a stock 2019 ZLE and i know GM tuned the car for 93 octane pump
but we only have 91 around CA. some stations offer 105 octane. is that safe to use? or how can i get 93 in the car? just to see the difference

I'll assume the 105 is at a pump and not leaded fuel. If so, mix them...google octane calculator, there's plenty available.

If you're just trying to get to 93, 16 gals of 91 and 3 gals of 105 should get you there.

If you have any stations around you that sell ethanol free fuel. You can use 14 gallons of ethanol free 91octane and add in 2 gallons of E85 to get your desired result.

Our Z's (stock) do not benefit from higher than ~95 octane without doing a warranty-voiding ECM tune.

Make sure that the 105 octane fuel is not E85. If not, then youre fine to mix the high octane gas with 91 to get ~93.

There are plenty of sites like this to help you calculate the mix:

Where I live the highest grade fuel at the pumps is 91, what could be some options to increase my Octane? Some of the turbo guys here are using boostane, would this be safe option?

Make sure that the 105 octane gasoline is not leaded before you use it. In our area we have some stations that have 110 octane gasoline pumps, but it's leaded, so no good for a car with catalytic converters. There is another station that has 100 octane unleaded gasoline at the pump, which would be fine for our cars.

I use Race Gas race fuel concentrate available in 2 different sizes 16 & 32 oz. The 16 oz brings 8 gallons of 91 to 95 and the 32 oz treats 16 gallons the same way. Essentially 1/2 tank or full tank. Expensive but, piece of mind from detonation and more power.

The vast majority of "Octane Boosters" dont work or dont bring the octane up as high as the label states.

As said if a person can find 100+ octane "Unleaded" at the pump you can use one of the online calculators to find out how many gallons you need to get to 93. The other option is you can run up to 15% of E85 with no issues at all. This will also raise the octane up and is way cheaper than running 100 octane unleaded race fuel.

Torco and Boostane are the exceptions.

I know exactly what you are talking about, you mean the over the counter "octane boosters". you are 100% correct, those do not work as advertised, however, a few that have been shown to be very accurate are

Boostane
Torco
Race-Gas

http://race-gas.com/

This is what we have tuned my car on to bring the octane up to 95 octane. As someone previously mentioned, 32 oz of this with a full tank of gas will turn 91 to 95 consistently.

This isn't your 8$ bottle of octane booster, these are $33 per can.
So yes, I pay an extra $33 for every fill up x 6-8 fill ups per month. I am perfectly satisfied paying an extra $200~$260 per month for power and no-knock

I haven't seen many stations that offer 105. A number of 76 stations offer unleaded 100 octane at $10/gallon.

You would mix 9 gallons of 91 with 7 gallons of 100 for 95 octane at those pumps.
