Test and Tune cutoff

Hey all. When it is a good idea to throw in the towel for the year. I'm in MI and there's a couple weekends of test and tune left, but the 10 day forecast shows it not getting out of the 40's. I looked up the DA and it's supposed to be around -560. Not familiar with testing during weather conditions like this or this low of DA.

-560?! Thats amazing DA, I wish I could get that in Tennessee. When I got my PB it was +592 ft, last outing was +2,000 ft

If the temp is below the dew point, stay away. Track will be wet.

Checking the dew point, as already stated, is a must.

Another aspect is the increased possibility of breaking something. I don't get the opportunity to run in negative DA, the lowest I ever had the chance to run in was +300.

Broke a rear axle launching. Better air equates to more power, and any weak links are exposed.

I don't know about tracks in MI, but tracks in TX won't open unless the temp is above 50°.

Thanks all. The dew point/temp deal was great info. Yah I might throw in the towel for the year. Been a great year with many ups and downs. I learned an unbelievable amount of info from everyone. If the temp gets in the 50s I may go again for test/tune.

Chris, I got my personal best last Sunday in 650DA. It was awesome because pretty much everyone there were Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers.

A couple weeks ago, I went to a street prep event at Las Vegas Motorplex, the DA was 4000+. Between the DA and street prep, the best I could run was a 10.5. :(

Thats still good, and at least you were finally able to make it to a 1/4 track. Always more opportunities!

Waiting for axle breaking prep and at least decent DA so I can run low 10s maybe even 9.9x.

Hey Vegas, you need to get up here in MI. I just learned about DA this year from this site. I can even tell the difference in my 4x4 truck on crazy low DA days. When you get on a 5500lb 4x4 truck at 6am in crazy low DA on the way to work, it kinda gives you a warm fuzzy feeling. Then you have to wipe off the coffee that you spilled on your jacket

Maybe we will get a break here during the next several months. Average winter day time high is 60. Hopefully the track will have some TNT.
