Long highway vacation coming up - would the Borla S drone at 75 mph on an LS3?
Leaving next weekend on a very long MI to TX to FL Keys 3 week road trip in my new SS 6spd manual. Would love to have a little more rumble for the trip. Probably going to do 4 - 5,000 miles, most of which at 75-78ish in 6th gear cruise.
All the videos and sound clips I've heard, I love the Borla S sound. But for such a long trip, will there be any 6th gear drone at highway speed with the LS3 that will get annoying after a while. I want to enjoy the radio and conversation for the long boring stretches. But want a deep rumble/roar on hard accel. Thanks. |

Yes there will be some drone. I've got an L99 with Borla "S" exhaust and had the afm tuned out. It shows up during light acceleration between 1500 and 1900rpm so at 75+ you'll be right on the top of that range. I also have longtube headers now. For me the drone isn't really that bad, but some people have different level's of sensitivity to it. I believe Borla's Touring exhaust is supposed to help with the drone issue so you may want to look at that one. Still has a nice rumble to it.

i just took my car up to NYC a week ago. bout a 4hr trip. mine started droning really bad at close to 80mph. 75mph was tolerable, between the radio and talking it wasnt very noticeable. but as stated, at close to 80 itll be droning pretty good.

Go with the rear section only then. This will give you the sound with very very minimal interior resonance while cruising in those low rpm ranges.

Mine have noticeable drone between 79-82 mph, just the nature of the beast. Either slow down or crank the tunes! I have the S-type axlebacks.

Yes. Drone. Bad. I have it with the Borla Axle back (GMPP Track). I just put in Dyanamat in the trunk for a $130 fix. It helped a lot. Acceptible now.

I have the Borla "S" catback and you will have some drone, but mine isn't so bad that you can't hear the radio or have a conversation. And if you set the cruise at either the top or the bottom of the "drone zone", you should be fine.
