Problems with Traction Control

I may have a problem with my Traction Control

Driving my 6speed manual trans 1SS in the rain with Traction Control engaged, after normal acceleration in first gear for 40 ft, then using 3/4 throttle, rear wheels broke loose and stayed that way through first gear, and reoccured in second gear. Traction Control did not engage during wheelspin all the way to 5000rpm, (I had not disengaged TC after starting the engine). The TC light on dash flashed, but I did not get a "code" for "check engine" for Onboard Diagnostics

Has anyone else had similar problems? Is this performance expected?

I found in cold or wet roads the traction control will not kick in untill the rear end steps out. Not fun the first time u don't expect it. When it kicks in the car slaps u into the drivers window. Paddle shiftg A6 from 1 -2 low rpm... it will step out!

I was driving mine during a drizzle day back in september and it got out from under me during a turn and again from a stop TC never kicked in (at least the light never engaged) either time. . .this is why, as I've said in other threads, I will be parking myself and my car at home the days the white stuff starts falling. . .saving up the work leave for those haha

Drove mine in the rain today and its
about 45f. I had no wheel spin. Good
traction on freeway and off highway.

First thing I do after starting the car is turn all the nannies off. At least than nothing unexpected happens when and IF they kick in. Just change my driving habits depending on road conditions.

I've done the same on all my cars and plan to do it on the camaro as well...if you have a manual you will be able to control these things.

It sounds like there was not enough difference between your wheel speeds. You should really try to spin them hard from a stop and see what it does. I bet it takes over at that point.

Think about it this way, if you are accelerating and at any point the tires are broke loose, if the car is going 22 mph at that exact point and the tires are going 24 mph then the traction control is not going to do anything. If the car is going 5 MPH and the tires are going 40 the traction control will step in right away.

My car seems like it spins a lot in the rain too, but it's not, in reality.

In the dry from a dead stop if I rev it to 5000+ rpm and dump the clutch it will literally smoke the tires for about 10 feet (not very far) and then it takes over and pulls it way back to get it under control. But it does not chop the power off completely (not obtrusive).

Thanks much for the quick and thoughtful replies guys. I understand your advice to just turn it TC off and just live with a "loose condition" Spent 30 years in Wisconsin, and I am familiar with wheel spin at ALL MPH speeds. My previous rides were 1995 Z28 and 2002 Z28 with no traction control and 6spd manual. I just thought TC was supposed to take over whenever I had "excessive" wheelspin in the 2010 1ss with 6spd manual. NOT just at launch from dead stop. I have a buddy who is service mgr at a chev dealer here in Houston and I will have him check it out.

I was driving yesterday through all the rain we got from huntsville to orange and was having the same problem with traction. Every time i even thought about touching the gas i could feel them giving out and the rear end sliding. Their great for dry weather but horrible when wet.

I really do think it is a bad idea to get into the habit of always driving with the stabilitrack/TC off. It's there to help you. Nothing bad happens when tc 'kicks in'. precise and abrupt braking straighten you out, that's it, I don't see how that could be unexpected. If you want to get sideways and stay sideways then sure, take them off, but I hope you're not wantng to he sideways daily on publc roads. Competition mode is just that, a mode. It's not intended for daily driving use. The fact is, with stab/tc off, you run the unnecesary risk of makng a mistake and having nothin to back you up. That's a silly risk for a daily commute to work or a simple errand trip.

is there a possibility that the traction control is malfunctioning? like i said before i drove in cold wet weather and the traction was superb. no wheel spin at all. no sliding. i drive a manual 6. maybe you guys should get that checked out by the dealer.

by the way...my car is only 4 days old from the dealership if that means anything.

I just don't feel right unless I'm above 3000 rpms.
