2010 Camaro SS windsheild
We have to replace the glass on our 2010 SS and I'm trying to find out whether the tint on the upper 5" or so of the windshield is factory or is it aftermarket. We want to make sure that Safelite Autoglass replaces it with the correct windshield.

Excellent company. I replaced my windshield approximately 1 1/2 years ago and it has held up very well so far.

The first step is to provide the glass shop with your VIN, so they can get you a windshield with correct features. On 2010 there was no HUD, but there is still a difference between the windshields for manual and automatic cars, because the latter have remote start.
The original windshield would have a GM logo on it. However, the OEM windshield is made by Pilkington. Replacements, even if purchased through a GM dealer, are marked Pilkington. There are alternatives, but they will not all be of equal quality, and some will cost considerably less than the original. Personally, I can't stand windshields that are wavy or distort around the edges; they give me motion sickness. I have replaced the windshield on my 2010 twice already, both times with the Pilkington glass. My experience with Safelight, on other cars, is that if you don't ask, you will get the cheapest available glass. Maybe that's particularly the case in states like mine where collision insurance is required to cover windshields without a deductible. If that's your situation and you want OEM, you will have to pay the difference. (Curiously, my insurance covered Pilkington the first time because the car was under 2 years old, Second time, I paid the difference.) |

I had to replace my windshield glass on my former 2011 2LT and I requested a GM windshield for the HUD. They installed one with the GM logo on it. I only had to pay about $125-$150 difference if I remember correctly. And this was the first time it happened.

BTW, does it say Pilkington anywhere on your GM labeled windshield? It's been 8 years since I replaced mine, so I don't remember. |

No there wasn't any Pilkington anywhere on the windshield. However, My current 2010 2LT has an OEM HUD installed in it. I will be in need of replacing the windshield because the glass is not equipped for the HUD. I'd be curious to see if I could find a GM replacement these days if there are any.
