RS Headlights

Hey, does anybody know what the story is with the headlights for the 2SS w/ RS? Apparently you can only order them w/ your VIN because they changed halfway through production. Anybody know what the change was and why?

Also, anybody on the inside know why there are only 2 in the entire US!!!! DANG!! I need mine fixed bad! I've bugged the dealer enough, they are on special order direct from the supplier and are being delivered straight to the dealer (so they tell me). He said they have a swat team working to get it delivered asap. Why the huge backlog? Anybody know who the supplier is? I'd love to give them a call and see what the hold up is!!

I don't understand what you are talking about? You are getting your RS Headlights changed after you got the car? Or your car still on order?

Ou k, I didn't gather that from his OP. I would suggest talking to camaro scotty or post in the vendor classifies section and see if a supplier/vendor responds.

Yeh i didnt understand what he meant either. I have the RS Package and I hate the fact that I cannot turn on the fog lamps from the switch. They are DRLs- Daytime Running Lights; as stated in the "Get To Know Your Camaro" user manual.

Note: I received my 1LT/RS Camaro on 10th December 2009; shipment of late November 2009, so that's from the new production line.

It would be niCe to have the option to turn the foglamps on without them automotically being detected.

Sorry, on not being clear. I hit a dear and it crushed the light. The shop has everything fixed but can't find the headlight. The dealer has it on order from the factory but has no idea when it will come in. Based on dealer inventory there are only 2 in the entire US (both are already sold, I checked).

Based on the dealers word, there are two different kinds on the SS RS model. They said mine are the 'high intensity' version based on my vin. I was just trying to figure out why all the 2SS RS cars didn't have the same headlights.

There is the SS headlight and then there is the RS package headlight.

Got the same story from 2 dealers, 1 in ohio, 1 in California. They both needed the vin to verify my config. Model wasn't enough.

There's a dealer here in Michigan (Cadillac Dealer, go figure) that has a right hand side headlight for a car with the RS package.

Your RS headlights are "high intensity" lights. There aren't two different versions of the HID headlights. The other headlight version is the normal halogen light found on non-RS cars. I believe the VIN check is to keep non-RS car owners that are wanting to upgrade to HIDs from buying them while supplies are so low. Example: Pontiac required a VIN to purchase the 4th-gen Firehawk hood. After a few years they opened sales up for all customers. I'm sure some of the Firebird owners here can provide a little more detail if needed.

Guess that makes some sense. I thought it seemed really odd they would make a change mid production year. When I questioned the dealers on it they really didn't know.
