Glass Question
Any glass guys on here? Well, I got the windows tinted today and when the guy finished, I noticed he cut the side glass outside on the drivers side. It is not cut real deep but very noticeable. He said he lays the tint on the outside and cuts it to fit then puts it on inside. He was really ticked at himself when we saw it. Anyway, he said he will have the glass company come out next week and replace the glass. I really don't want to do that since the windows are number stamped. Can scratches be buffed or rubbed out if not too deep?
Thanks for any help!!!

Out here in West Texas we have a real bad dirt problem. The dirt will settle into the rubber and etch the window when you roll it down. I used "liquid glass" and it filled it in and brought it back looking really nice. Might want to give it a look and see if it can help.

Just curious, what is the big deal with number stamped glass? Are you worried about matching numbers stuff? It's no big deal in fact, glass means nothing. I would get it replaced for free if it is bothersome enough.

as a nice guy, i tend to go the extra mile for someone... however, when it comes to buffing scratches it can be difficult... when you buff the glass, you raise the risk of distorting it... a door glass is different than a windshield, but the same rule applies... personally, id buff it and if it doesn't come out, leave it alone...

Thanks guys. Russo, it is actually the small side glass for the back seat on the drivers side. What would you use to buff it? Should I try it or have a glass company do it?

we use the same stuff a jeweler uses... it's a redish powder that you mix with either glass cleaner or water... high speed buffer with a hard cotton bit... id look for an independent glass company to do it, if they do it..

I used to do this at a glass shop years ago, basically, the scratches that can be buffed out completely are the ones you almost can't see, and if you can feel them with your fingernail, you probably won't be able to buff them out enough to be happy. I have buffed enough to really distort a window and it doesn't look good.

Leave it as is. I wouldn't touch it.

number matched? you mean etched with the Vin # they can do that on the new glass. As long as its oem glass it means nothing to have it replaced

See if your insurance company can replace it... usually insurance companies or dealers will have you covered under their plan.
