Winter tire package opinions?

Does anyone have any input on the preferred package that Tirerack.com has on their website for the Camaro?

I have a 2LT without the RS package. These seem like a great deal....

For a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, you can (and should) go down to a 15" wheel. 15's will be less expensive, and arguably better (Some say a smaller tires cut through snow slush better than a larger tire with a larger contact patch. The logic makes sence, but I don't have any data to back it up).

NOTE - the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro GT (with factory 17's) can not take 15's, you can only downsize the GT to 16"

Thanks for the reply, but just wanted to clarify your last note:

Chevrolet makes a Camaro SS, not GT.

Camaros do not come from the factory with 17" wheels...18" is the minimum available from the factory.

The SS can not take stock 18" wheels, but there are a limited amount of aftermarket wheels that will fit over the Brembo brakes.

Are you sure this is not being confused for a Mustang GT?

One thing that concerns me since my initial post is that another member changed his tires and immediately tripped a "service Stabilitrack system" code. I am hoping changing the wheel size below what came from the factory will not trip a code. The overall diameter is .1" within the factory specs, so not concerned with the speedometer being thrown off. Should I be concerned?

Tirerack used to previously recommend the Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow on 18" rims.

It's interesting that there is a 17" Rim package now.

I can tell you I went with the 20" Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow installed on my stock rims, and that was the cheapest option I could do. I picked them up at Belle Tire here in Lansing. I did come across a set of 20" rims on Ebay, so I have those to use for my summer tires.

I've had no issues with the scorpions, aside from the TPMS reading a bit low, but I'm not worried about that. It isn't low enough I see any errors from the car, and checked the pressure with my tiregauge and compressor.

By the way, the pirelli scorpion winter tires perform great!

Thanks for the input...20" are a little outside my budget.

The 17" package appears to be a great deal, provided it does not affect the car negatively.

I have a 2LT/RS and just checked this out today as well. $744 for snow tires and rims? Cant beat it.

yeap, that was me. And yes, it was the "huge" difference in tire size that tripped the Stabilitrak code. (sarcastic there). I have a 2SS, and I kept the 275/40 in the rear, but went with a 255/35 in the front (comes with 245/45). That difference threw the code. I should have went with a 245/40, a 255/45, or another 245/45.. anything beyond those sizes will more than likely throw a code (or changed the rear to be a 275/35). Rim size needs to be consistant also, but no need to go on about that. damn car is too smart I tell you

So as long as all 4 tires are the same overall height it should be fine? I am thinking regardless of the wheel diameter, as long as the overall tire size is within .1" of stock, Stablitrack will not be affected.

I doubt Tirerack.com would sell a package that would throw a code....but it never hurts to ask around.
