Need some insight on Suspension please 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hey all !! Hope everyone us doing all right given the situation we currently are in . So I wanted to get some ideas on upgrading the suspension to get better control on my car. Mostly from like 40roll !!
I have Procharger D1 SC with a stage 2 tuner kit , circle D 3800 stall converter, RCR cam ( lunati 223/231 111 +0 .625 /.622 ) , BO WHITE portedTB , 1-7/8 speed engineering headers with cat delete , has a FLEX FUEL Kit , Just installed H&R street performance coilovers . I feel a little positive difference in terms of handling with the coilovers but still a lot to be desired !!looking at the BMR’s products but there are so many hard to choose from !!! I still get the feeling of lack of control specially when I punch it !!!please if anyone of you learned gurus could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it !! I have a budget of $1000 . Thank you again

Nitto nt05rs. Coilovers are stiff and are for handling but not as great on hooking up. Bmr trailing arms and toe links. Solid rear cradle mounts. Make sure your alignment is good. For planting the tires .12 toe in each side and .5 positive camber is good for drag racing, if you want the street handling as well go for -.5 to -.8 degrees camber

For a bit over 1k you're in the range of the Hotchkis Race pack. Comes with performance lowering springs, thick sway bars and end links, a good strut tower brace, and a great chassis brace that makes your car feel like a rock on rails. All tuned to work with our cars for best performance.
The lowering springs bring you down about 1", and as you can see from my pic album, doesn't look bad at all... I have been thoroughly happy with my setup, carving the hills of Cali on weekends all the time. Feeling confident on curbs and turns with those thick sway bars... thicker than 1LE and Z/28. On Tires, skip the NT05's and go with the NT555 G2's. Much better tread and life. Still a very good grip, especially on 315's. Better looking also imo. I'll always recommend Hotchkis. Read up on it some more, you will not be disappointed. Any questions let me know. ![]() https://www.hotchkis.net/product/201...ension-system/ From the site; ![]() Designed for maximum performance 5th Gen Camaro's headed for autocross and track days the Hotchkis Sport Suspension Race Pack is a tuned balanced complete suspension solution for the Gen 5 Camaro. Thicker front and rear sway bars with updated rear LCA's so you can run the later style rear bar. Stiffer rear cradle bushings would help out a lot too.

My car floats in 1st and 2nd under wot but only if it's slightly spinning. The handling components don't help this, traction is really what you need. I'll bet you put a set of nt05rs and hook and the floaty feeling goes away. I have cradle inserts, lowering springs, bmr trailing arms, toe links, bmw rear sway bar and good alignment. Its stiff, the floating i get is from traction. When it's going well but barely spinning the car dances a little in the rear, best i can describe it. These guys are steering you more into road course stuff. You can't have it all. Nt555s I'd smoke all day long. Don't know what you power level is but sounds like you're up there. There are compromises when you want handling and you're life compared to straight line traction. What is it you're looking for? NT05s will last 5-10k but are a drag radial, if you need the traction that's what they are for, you won't get rid of the dance if you're spinning.

Since you've already got coilovers, I think the next step would be to go with some or all of the parts Spec recommended. I've installed BMR stuff, not Hotchkis, but trailing arms, toe rods and cradle bushings are the place to start to improve your launch. Bigger sway bars to help your cornering.
I finally got around to installing my BMR sway bars (SB037 kit) and I notice a huge difference. I also installed coilovers at the same time, so it's a lot of change all at once. Also, if you're still running stock SS rims, I'd recommend going with some wider ones. I noticed a difference switching from stock SS to the 1LE before any other suspension changes. The size of the tire helps get the most out of all the suspension parts.

It all your worried about is traction in roll racing. Get stickier tires. Cradle bushings would be a major plus as well.

Wow great
Thanks so much to all the forum members for the most invaluable advice !!! I have a set of MT ET STREET SS tires 305-45-17 on a set of welds for the rears . And have ordered. A few things as listed below . Feel free to chime in .
TR 003 R Toe rods (adjustable ) TCA -026R trailing arms (non adjustable ) SB 017R Rear sway bar kit with bushings As I had mentioned previously , I already have a set of H&Rsprings street performance coilovers . It’s lowered by 2 inches all around . I was driving yesterday on the Tpke and I punched it and next thing you know the car was feeling like it was just floating all over the road !! Was extremely hard to keep the car in a straight line !!! It just felt like it was floating !!! Hated it !!! I have been reading about the STRUT TOWER BRACE !! For the 2010 camaro ss !! I don’t have it on the car so am thinking of getting one !! Not sure if it will make a difference !!! Please advise

Justice Pete said that the strut tower braces didn't improve lap times when they tested.

Strut tower brace won't help you any. You might want to do solid cradle bushings. The other things you are putting in will also help with a good alignment. I only get the float in 2nd with strong traction but I think it's spinning just barely hazing the tires. In 3rd it's good. It also seems to depend on the road like its following road contours, the front end gets so light it's like the rear is doing the steering.

I think you made some good choices on the parts you ordered. Cradle bushings will help, as well as a good alignment after you've installed those parts. Search around here and you'll find lots of different alignment specs, you probably want to pick if you want an alignment for cornering or one for straight line racing.
PS. That is a very nice ride!

Will it improve cornering performance? Probably not, if very little. However, it will stiffen up the chassis structure in the engine compartment between the shock towers and reduce shock tower deflection. |
