Anyone else have an experience like this?

So I am heading home from fayetteville to see my uncle who is on his deathbed on friday morning, my wife was following me in her black cobalt I am driving my 2010 orange SS, I am on I-40 just outside of garner and my cruise is set to 77 (the posted limit is 70) I am moving with the flow of traffic when I see my wife change lanes and a car run up my ass so I also change lanes, turns out the car is a state trooper he turns on his lights and pulls me, knowing that I was doing 77 in a 70 im prepared for the ticket, I do not tell the officer that I am military or that I am going to see my dying uncle, speeding is speeding and I was, hence I was going to take the ticket without complaining, he asks shortly for my liscense and registration I give it to him, he comes back 10 minutes later and hands me a ticket for 97mph in a 70mph zone, I comment that my cruise was set to 77 he responds with "I clocked you at 97 son" in a very condescending tone, promptly turns away and proceeds to throw dirt all over my car as he speeds around me over the median. Now I have no issue with the ticket I was traveling at 77, what irks me is that he made my wife move over (she was directly behind me) then ticketed me for 27 over, their is no way I did 97 mph at any time during that trip. If anyone has any advice what to do I am all ears. I have no tickets on my record and fully intend to have a lawyer represent me.

Fight it. With a lawyer, and get court costs and lawyer's fees. Find one who has experience fighting speeding tickets.

Can OnStar verify that speed at that precise time???

I would be shocked if they couldn't.

Wow I would fight that one all the way. That one really sucks, and gives LEO's a bad name they do not deserve.

Why is he dumb? He's NOT admitting any guilt by signing the ticket, only acknowledging the terms of his release, ie; he now knows he has to have the citation taken care of, either by showing up in court, or paying the fine.

I love when people refuse to sign the ticket, and think they are really doing something. The one's who refuse by being a smartass get a must appear regardless of what they did. Those who refuse to sign in a respectful manner get their I-Bond and a see ya later.

To the OP, definitely have a lawyer represent you, and have your wife make a statement. Check with OnStar to see if they can help as previously mentioned. Good luck, I hope you can get this set right.

We dont have to sign the ticket in NC, all I got was a print out from the cops car with a court date and the charge and date vic specs etc. As for fighting it I will be having a lawyer represent me but I can not be there on the court date.

This is profiling as the story I am about to tell you will show.

I was driving my daughters little put put car up and down Macon Road in Columbus with my son on the phone, checking out the rpm's (it's a 95 acura integra), going from 0 to 85 in full view of a silver mustang and not too far behind him, a motorcycle cop. I hot foot it out of my neighborhood (they are about a block behind me), go up and over the hill, then turn around and come back down the hill and guess who's pulled over. The silver mustang took the hit for my 85mph in a 45 zone. The mustang is a nice one too (not a mustang fan), we live in a nice neighborhood so lots of snazzy cars get tickets in the area.

auto profiling without a doubt. check with onstar and see if they can help. It would have been better if you had called onstar at the time you got pulled over... something to think about if that ever happens to any of us in the future.
