AFM changes rough
Just got a 2017 SS today and wonderful if this is normal. When the car switches from V4 to V8 in the AFM the car shutters kind of feels like its going over speed bumps. That normal?

The AFM is usually felt in these cars, but nothing crazy for the most part. Could be the infamous shudder as well

I felt it all the time which is why I disabled it with a Range device. Some say they can’t feel it at all, but definitely do! Only going from V4 to V8 though. I never felt it going into V4 at all.

No, unfortunately that isn’t normal. My car makes the transition smoothly. That sounds like the classic symptoms of the A8 transmission shudder problem. That should be covered by the 5 yr/60,000 mile powertrain warranty. I suggest you get it figured out quickly while you have the option to return the car and walk away from the deal. You don’t want to get stuck with a big repair bill if you’re out of the warranty or it turns out to be something else.

Yeah if its not normal i will have it looked at its still under warranty plus it has CPO. Now to deal with the dealer trying to tell me its normal.

Here's a tip, you're entitled to getting technical service bulletin (TSB) 18-NA-355 ("Shake and/or Shudder During Light Throttle Acceleration, Aug 2019") done without any burden of proof, as the document states "Diagnosis beyond the customer complaint is not required if vehicle was built prior to production dates indicated above.", and it applies to model years 2016 to 2019. This procedure is a complete transmission flush with the latest Mobil1 fluid that fixes the shudder problem, provided that the torque converter is not overly damaged. Simply tell the dealer about your shudder concern and request the TSB to be performed on your car. Yes, there is a problem, yet there is no reason to overreact—I have the same transmission in my car btw, true, it's now tuned, but it performs flawlessly along with the ones in many other people's cars.

Yea sounds more like shudder than AFM switch over. I got the Range device after the shudder fluid flush fix and the car runs exactly the way I want it now. Just my preference. Going on 3500 miles since the new TSB flush fingers crossed!

Ted Jannetty tuned my car. I'm an amateur and don't want to learn the ropes on the best car I've ever had. Maybe later with some cheap beater

Ill take it in soon. Did some watching on my way to work today it doesnt seem do do it in V8 when you apply a little power to get out of V4. V4 cruising it does it pretty bad. Probably the torque converter cause it doesnt do it as much say cruising down a small hill.

It's definitely the TC shudder. Just bought a 2017, had the issue, searched here and found some people blaming it on AFM. Dealer quickly diagnosed and fixed it free of charge. They had to drain and fill the tranny fluid twice. Problem happened anytime I would apply light throttle. Was very bad on the highway, felt like I was hitting the rumble strips sometimes. Go get your fluid changed and you'll be set.

How many miles you guys have after the fluid change and did it come back? Little worried just a fluid change is just a bandaid.

I’m not sure how many miles but it’s been over a year for mine with no recurrence of the shudder. There are several threads on the topic and the latest fluid and flush procedure seem to have resolved the problem for most people. Not many threads about the problem returning. Generally GM will require that the dealer perform the new flush procedure before they will authorize the dealer to repair anything else.

Only been about 1500 miles for me but I think it's a permanent fix. Apparently the factory fill had the wrong type or amount of friction modifier which is what caused the issue.
