I got the GPI SS2 cam and bought a converter. With the GPI SS1 a converter is not necessary. Not sure if TSP is similar but I did notice my cam has more lift than a TSP 2 has. Durations are similar but again the GPI has a longer duration too.

Has there been any problems with it. I am looking at the TSP combo bc it comes with new heads and I have heard putting a cam in the engine without doing the heads will blow the engine is this true?

Not true. Tons of people do a cam and leave the rest stock with no problems. Mines getting installed next week. I would only do heads if I was doing an all out racing build. Our stock heads flow very well.

I would recommend a convertor on nearly any cam build, or even without a cam. Most of the 'Stage 1' cams for sale are built to be run without a convertor. I have a GPI stage 1 cam, but it has higher lift than some other companies Stage 3 cams, but I have lower duration and overlap than those same cams. I really would benefit form a convertor with this cam although it is not 'required' for me to run one. So your question on convertors really depends on the exact cam you decide on.

Go bigger you'll regret it down the road. Pulling the trigger on a cam kit can be intimidating but as long as you setup your valverain properly with good parts (trunnion, springs, lifters) you can definitely go bigger on the cam. Part of me wishes Id gone ss4 but Im content with my setup.

Good point Taz. I was also originally going with the SS1 and reconsidered my options. I picked the SS2 because its pretty much the equivalent of some manufacturers stage 3. I listened to the advise of others. Infidevil had great input that helped my decision when I saw how good his SS1 is. The SS1 from GPI is definitely a strong cam.
