German car fan's observations of the SS

So one of the project managers at work just picked up his 1-series 2 days before Christmas. He has owned a Mini, drives a BMW 3-series for Time Trials and his wife drives a 300C. He pretty much respects the potential of any well made car, and thinks the 5th Gen is one of those cars.

As he was describing his new ride to me, we ended up talking about my eventual ride. He mentioned taking his mother-in-law to check out a Caddy CTS and saw the SS in the showroom, and just stopped. He started thinking "Damn I know I have a 1-series, but I rather have this SS right now" LOL

Just had to share.

I never understood the fascination with itty bitty cars. I used to race go-karts, so that's what I always think about when I think of small cars. Sure - it handles like a go-kart, but I'm not a kid any more! I also think of budget 'student' cars when I think of small cars. It's not a fair comparison, but that's how I am.

Well, I currently own a 06 Porsche Cayman S, 09 997.2 C4S. I have owned several other German cars. I just pruchased a 10 SS/RS Summit white. I love the car... I love the raw power. The only thing that concerns me is the bouncy suspension at higher speeds and I am currently addressing that. This is my first domestic car purchase ever and I am impressed.

It maybe a go-kart to you but if it's a 135i there little sleepers. With just a reflash of the ECU they will give a stock SS a run for it's money

That might be true, but let's compare stock to stock. The 1 Series is just overpriced for what it offers and the car does not produce the sound or the drive experience that a SS has.

It beats the SS in handling, no doubts there, so on a curvy mountain road it might be fun to drive, but just regular street driving hands down the SS beats the 1 Series.

The 135 is a beast, but, not very good on the track. It doesnt have the balance of the 335.
