NEW LONG BLOCK (boosted)
Engine took a dump. Looking at Thompson Motorsports or TSP. Anyone have any feedback? I know both of these guys are pretty reputable.
So far I have the Thompson block in mind, but no idea for TSP. Thompson Motorsports Iron Block 1300HP DART SHPLSNEXT 427 1300HP w/ F710 Frankenstein Head. TSP seems like it’s a little bit cheaper, but once I get the right setup/optioned out, cost might end up being the same.

I don't know. I've heard good things about Thompson Motorsports but have ordered lots of stuff from TSP and have been to their facility 3 times and really like it. And I can say their parts and customer service are top notch.

Those heads are badass. What are you goals? Because you can save yourself $2000 if you stick with the M311 heads. Plus the cost of an LS7 intake. Maybe even new headers...
The ls7 style heads use a different intake port and the exhaust ports are raised a little, so headers may or may not fit/rub somewhere. Plus the rockers are different, but Im sure you plan on buying new ones anyway. Be realistic with your goals, and dont forget, it is not easy to hook 1200whp on the street. lol.

My goal:
-Keep the budget low. Lol -Keep my aftermarket parts: ECS 1500, Ls3 intake manifold, speed engineering headers, ATI dampener, High Torque starter, FIC injectors. Etc… If I can get something cheaper and support the power when I max out my blower, then that would be the route I would go with. I’m purposefully setting a plateau for my self. Not really looking to change out headers/intake manifold etc. Really just want to transplant as much of the after market parts to the new long block. So many damn options. And when you start looking, in the back of my mind I’m saying “well it’s only x amount more for this…”

I think a call to both would be in order to discuss your goals and let them put a package together.

ATTA BOY!! Dart SHP, this block is stronger than what that 1500 novi can provide. i think the novi 1500 is max effort around 900, but if you really plan to stay with the 1500 you can save more using a slightly lesser block. That Dart Block can handle way more than the rated 1300 as its a aftermarket 6 bolt racing motor. Headers off the stock motor setup might not fit the 6 bolt heads, definitely double check.

Looking at this as another option. 2500$ Less for a Forged iron block.

You might want to read through this, it discuss some of the Thompson Motorsports options.
https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showt...=588378&page=7 Depending on what you are doing with the car, at around 800hp I would stay with a production based aluminum block. Or to save money a production based iron block build. |

Yes, I would just hate to add the additional weight on the front end, when you have already added the weight of the supercharger. If you are mostly drag racing/straight line acceleration it might not be worth more cost for the little less weight, but it will be that more nose heavy when turning.
