Interesting TPMS Dash Warning Light Issue
This morning when coming in to work (18 degrees F) my SS popped off a low tire pressure warning light. The right rear tire has 30 psi. Oh Noez!
Anyways...the light that shows a cross section of the tire with an exclamation point in it did something funny. After being on for about 5 minutes, the light starts slowly fading out from the top of the light (top of the tire) down the illuminated symbol to the bottom. Then it went completely out. To state it another way, the tire symbol slowly faded to black from the top of the tire symbol to the bottom of the tire symbol. Then it popped back up in full illumination. It was really weird. Anyone experienced this? ![]() Here's a pic of the symbol.

My light came on this morning for the first time. The notice came up showing that I only had 31psi in the drivers rear tire. After about 5 mins. it went off and didn't come back on. It was 25 degrees this morning.

Here's a visual description of what the light did...

Common Causes of Low Tire Pressure
Low tire pressure is generally due to one of the following three conditions: A Leak. Most tire leaks are the result of a hole or puncture, faulty valve, or a porous or corroded wheel. Permeation. Permeation is the normal process by which the air in a tire bleeds through the tire's body or carcass. It is typical for an air-filled tire to lose 1-2 PSI of pressure every month through normal permeation, whereas it can take several months for a NitroFilled tire to lose a single pound of pressure. Temperature Change. All gases expand and contract with temperature. If you live in an area that experiences dramatic temperature changes, you will have to adjust your tire pressure accordingly. Typically you will only have to adjust your tire pressure "up," adding pressure as ambient temperatures decrease. Count on losing about 2% of your total tire pressure for every 10 degrees in temperature reduction.

Yes, I understand why tire pressures change with heat and cold and that air is lost through permeation. That wasn't the question.
What I really wanted to know is...is there a problem with my TPMS warning light in the dash? It acted all funky.
