AC belt tensioner??

Anybody noticed the lack of a AC belt tensioner. How do you expect to change the belt?

Good luck

I haven't looked yet, but is it the old fashioned method of loosening a bolt and repositioning the compressor and tightening the bolt?

Im not for certain on this, as what I heard came from the internets, but I heard they are one time use belts only and they stretch over the pullies. It sounds logical in the way that it looks like it could be done, and GM likes 1 time use parts.

Correct, one time use, you just have to rotate the pulley and spin the belt on and off. Unbelievable that GM couldn't put some sort of adjustment to the mounting of the AC compressor. Have you noticed how tight that belt is?

Yes, no belt adjustment on the a/c compressor. GM says to cut the belt when taking off the compressor. I have had 2 put on under warranty. GM list price on the "special belt" was $298 and it comes with an installation tool.

I replaced mine when I did the Under drive pulley.. what a pain in the a$$.
and no loosing up the compressor doesn't make it any easier.. the frame rails get in the way, and you would have to totally disconnect the AC lines from the compressor to get it to go on.. only way to get it on is to do like what was mention.. start on one side, and rotate the crank pulley while guiding the belt into it's proper groves.. a real pain in the a$$

Has anyone cross-referenced the P/N on the belt to something we can pick up at the local parts store?

I was told that snap-on has a tool that supposedly clamps on to the crank pulley and walks the belt on "EASILY"..Anybody know anything about it?

I was able to "walk" my original belt off and the shorter one on when I installed my U/D pulley. Not sure what all the fuss is about.....I didn't think it was that tough.

Yes, Snap On has the tool, so does Car Quest for about half the price. Cost me about $12.00

I purchased the belt from my dealership, came with the install tool and the belt cost somewhere around $45 with my discount.

I installed the AC belt by holding (no special tool) it in place on the crank pulley and turned the engine with a socket and ratchet on the pulley bolt. I had the spark plugs out at the time, so it wasn't too bad.
