Help! Loud deep humming sound/vibration at low speeds

It's been a while since I last posted on this forum.

I really hope someone can lend a hand in helping me figure out what is wrong with my 2010 V6 Camaro.

I have replaced the oem air intake with a K&N one back in 2017 and in 2019 onwards, I've been getting an error code of P2179, this code indicates that there is a lean air fuel mixture on bank 2 of the engine. I didn't think anything of it until recently. Not sure if this is related to the issue I am experiencing now.

The issue now is, each time I start it up, I hear a slightly louder vibration that rattles the heat guard just a bit until it cools down. Once driving, at low rpm's, I hear a somewhat louder deep humming sound coming from it seems like behind the engine. Not sure what is causing this sound. It is really annoying while driving short and long distances, it vibrates the gas pedal enough to bother my foot while pressing on it at 1200rpms...

I've brought the camaro to a neighbourhood mechanic, which I explained the sound and vibration gets louder whenever I have the heat or A/C on, and the mechanic had the car for about a week and said "Oh you just had a missing bolt on the a/c mount, which is now fixed!" ... $300 dollars later...

Anyways the sound is now back, worried to bring it back in to the same guy, because they don't seem to understand what is causing this problem.

Looking to reach out to the Camaro5 community for assistance. I love my Camaro so much don't want to keep throwing money at mechanics not fixing the issue.

My hunch is that there could be an air leak somewhere... or the engine mounts are loose (the car does shake a bit while driving at high speeds on the highway, without pressing on the gas pedal). What is the issue!!?

Thank you in advance for any help!!!!

Did the problem go away after the ac mount bracket bolt was replaced?

This sounds trivial but have you tried putting the stock air box back in? It could be the bank 2 o2 sensor acting up also. Could be a bank 2 intake leak. I copied & pasted that code into search & a lot of threads come up. Here is an interesting one.

Hi hunter,

I thought the problem went away for a day or two, then it came back again :(

Thanks acutron, I haven’t reverted back to the oem air intake yet, should I revert back to it after 5 years or so of having it on? Will it make a difference at this point.

Thanks badbubba, I am leaning towards thinking it’s the motor/trans mounts.

Just some more info here when I put the car in drive and switch it up to neutral, the sound is still here around the 1200 rpm mark. So I’m ruling out any engine damage. Must be the motor mounts, or something loose somewhere, not sure if the engine too lean code is contributing to this problem. I could be totally wrong.

Here is a video of what I hear when driving.

Damn, that's pretty loud. Are we sure this isn't exhaust? It either sounds like a bad exhaust leak or the exhaust rubbing against something. I'm sure it sounds totally different in person, but it's still pretty intense on the video. Something this loud seems like it would be an easy find. Maybe get the car up on jack stands and have someone get it in gear and go through the lower rpm range while someone else is looking for the source.

That would drive me crazy. Good luck man, and let us know what you find please.

Check the exhaust.
Mainly places around 02 sensors. It seems to me that exhaust fumes will be leaking somewhere.
Therefore, an error may have occurred with the wrong fuel mixture of the 02 sensors.

Ok, update! So it seems that the issue was the air compressor, apparently it was missing a screw and the other was extremely loose. Luckily it didn’t fall out or it would of been costly…

It’s been about 2 days driving and the vibration sound has completely gone away, as well as the vibration in the pedal. Shocked that the air compressor can cause this issue.

My issue of the fuel mixture being too lean still happens… I believe it has to do with the K&N filter.. also had the car stall on me on the road today, I think my knee knocked the keys a bit back counter clockwise due to the weight of the other keys. So just an fyi for you to have your keys as light as possible!! Thank god I wasn’t driving on the highway.

Hope this helps people in the future.

Thanks for the help!!
