Replacing 6x9’s with dual 5 1/2’s

Has anyone done this before? I know in 3rd gens we would replace the sail panel 6x9’s with two 5 1/2 or 5 3/4 with some minor trimming and get better sound. Obviously speakers have gotten better so I was curious if it’s a worthwhile mod since one of my rear speakers is blown.

Yes, many people myself included. I went with Hertz in the rear. If you search they make the adapters to do that.

Hold on,
To be sure I was clear. I meant two speakers in place of each 6x9 so 4 total in the rear.
