1st oil change.....
Changed the oil on my 2LTRS, went with Mobil 1 synthetic, boy was the oil and filter ever dirty only after 1500 miles, saw quite a few metal specs in the bottom of the pan, installed a gold plug (magnetic drain plug) should help with that problem. Plan to change it myself each 3,000 miles. Made two ramps with rough cut 2x12's (only 2 high) plenty of room in front then to get to it and have room for drain pan. Ordered Mobil 1 filters M1C 254 filters from O'reilly's auto parts, 6 pack for $52 that included tax and shipping.

Where did you get your magnetic drain plug from? From what i hear mobil 1 isn't as good as RP.

Now, just watch that oil change meter. I always knew we could change out the oil with more miles....but, now GM finally says "it's true."
One thing. Doing the oil yourself WILL save you money...especially when you are using Mobile1 like most of us. But, one thing you can't buy is the recorded oil changes from the dealer at specific miles. Don't get me wrong...I would do it myself too...saves $20 or so. But, I had an engine blow in my old S10. They told me there wasn't a drop of oil in that engine. I knew I had it changed within the 3k mile range. But, they said the lack of oil blew the engine. I couldn't do anything expect give them my word that I did it myself. Ever since then, I've taken it to the dealer. I have it on record...and if that crap happens again, I'm going to tell them to look at the records. I couldn't prove it then....but I can now. Oh, and it sucks having to dispose of the used oil. Just more to do. But, more power to you if you want to do it yourself. IMO, I'd take it to the dealer. ![]() I do like the idea of the plug, though. |

Out here we have a few places that have oil burners in their commercial shops and garages. I just put the used oil back in the contains and they welcome it...recycled, no harm to environment.
There's a place in your owners manual to date and initial for services Last edited by strobi; 01-10-2010 at 03:05 AM. |
