LS3 vs L99 mods

I realize both these engines share the same block and displacement, but thats about it. Each engine is assigned a different transmission & rearend ratio. They have diferent hp/tq curves & ratings. AFM & different exhaust systems and mufflers.

Does anyone else wish they would seperate the LS3 & L99 sections? I've seen so many discussions over mod results like exhaust tones, tunes etc.... only to find it's a LS3 guy arguing with a L99 guy. The engine/tranmissions combos make these cars like apples and oranges when when doing mods.

Functionally, they are very much the same. It makes sense that they are in the same section since the vast majority of discussion does apply safely to both engines. While you have a very good point about the sound and the differences between the transmissions, the engines are so alike that they both seem to respond well to the same changes.

Mod for mod, The LS3 obviously puts down more power, But the l99 is right there with the ET's, Most guys modding there l99 are removing the AFM and VVT and doing a cam swap which is basically an LS3 conversion, So once these cars start getting modded its not really an l99 to LS3 anymore,
Its the A6 and M6 comparison,IMO

The V6 and V8 sections are separate, that doesn't stop V8 guys from chiming in and saying "well, you should have gotten an SS"

As much as they are Different they are both V8 Engines and they respond to the same mods and the parts are interchangeable which puts them in the same group, class, Forum.

The Gains are also Similar.

What works on an L99 Works on an LS3 and visa versa.

If you have an specific questions feel free to contact me.

Ted.
