What brand 180 Deg Thermostat should I get?

I was just wondering if there is one brand that is better then the other with the 180 Deg Stats, I have heard certain ones are known to fail.

LS3 Motor

Thanks

Lingenfelter is 174, My Tune I have ready to load is for 180 Deg stat with fan settings, not sure if the 174 is to low, or if any of the other links are good replacement items. I have heard the Mishismoto are hit or miss.

I think that would be a touch to low for me, I went with a 180 Hi FLo by Motorad which is what th vendors above all carry.

The Granateli and the Motorad both look like $7 auto store quality compared to the OEM. Both the Motorad 174F and the Granateli 180F thermostats both ran hotter than my OEM 187F!

Summit branded 160*F stat has treated me well. I liked the Misimoto 169*F for a while, but after having two fail I went back to the trusty generic one from Summit and it's been good. That's what we sell here at GPI, and I haven't had come-backs on those, so they have my confidence.

As far as the 180 vs. 160*F - why not the 160*F I'd be interested to learn your concerns with going to the 160*F. There are a lot of common misconceptions on thermostats, how they function, etc. I've got a video with some information that you might find helpful/interesting:

Acammer always brings the good info!

I am running the Mishi 169* one Acammer mentioned here and its has been going great for the past 2 years.
If I remember correctly, the rubber seal on the earlier mishi ones would fail.
Looks like they fixed that issue since.

I'm with Andrew on this one, I too had the Mishi 169 twice as well, and they failed. Went with the Summit 160 and so far, all is good with it. And I do recall speaking with you Andrew on my choice for the Summit unit, I went with it on your suggestion. Thanks sir!

Yep - that's what failed on mine - the inner rubber gasket that the plunger/valve acts against. It was breaking apart, and jammed it partially open, plus allowed a leak where it broke away. Bad material.

The 169*F is great in a bolt on car that doesn't produce much heat, but with a cammed setup I have found the 160*F doesn't over-cool, and provides more initial thermal capacity that suits my drag strip needs best.
