Small RWD Infiniti coming

Quote:
2010 Nissan Cube, Small Infiniti Details

While at the Pebble Beach Concours, we were able to sit down for a dinner with Nissan/Infiniti's head designer, Shiro Nakamura. The man designed Isuzu's VehiCross, so come on, he's got some interesting ideas. That thing was before its time, as the X6 certainly proves. Anyway, at our dinner he confirmed a few details about future plans within the company, though you'll have to click through to find out more.

First things first, the upcoming Nissan Cube. The most obvious issue with the current design carrying over to the US is the fact that its asymmetrical design is biased toward right-hand drivers and not us Americans. As such, there have been questions about whether the car will maintain its odd but cool shape. The answer is officially yes. Nissan plans to tool its plants to build Cubes in both right- and left-hand drive with wrap-around windows alternating based on the market. That means the price to keep the factory flowing will rise, but after our first impressions of the current Cube, we don't think it'll have problems selling. Also in question is a new addition to the Infiniti line-up below the G. That's also been given the green light and should show up on the auto show circuit fairly soon. And that gets us excited--if BMW is reviving the spirit of the 2002 with the new 135i, does that mean Nissan will revive the Datsun 510 in fancied up Infiniti garb? We certainly hope so. The G37 currently manages the price issue well versus the 135i, and were there to be a smaller car with a four cylinder, we think it would make the Hyundai Genesis and the 135i shake in their boots.
