There needs to be a 4th option. I buy my own oil & filter and take it to my buddy’s house since he has a lift.

Yep, serious trust issues here.
Besides when I was a punk kid changing oil was a right of passage into car guy manhood.

If you're physically capable I believe you should do as much maintenance on your vehicle as possible. Too many opportunities for "I'm sorry Sir but we broke ______"! The 2LS had 5 years of free oil changes from the dealership, never went there once.

i have a promaster 2500 for work and wife's jeep grand Cherokee are far easier to change the oil on than the zl1. i don't even need to lift them up. I just lay on my back and can reach everything. Helps that the filter is up top.

Not to mention all the halfassed work supposedly pro shops do. It's almost impossible to find someone who will do good work on a modded vehicle. Most shops just want to get it out the door.

Same here. I love the fact my buddy finally put a lift in. Now I don't need one lol. I usually have to wrestle his mustang off of it in order to use it but thats all part of the experience.

Many years ago I had the “free” oil changes on 2 Chevy cars( wife’s brand new Cruze and my V6 Camaro). 2 different dealerships. First one doubled up filter seal and crushed the oil filter but sent it out the door as good. I noticed odd oil psi, so I pulled filter and found the 2 seals on one side of it.
The Cruze was the first oil change and another dealer cross threaded or over tightened drain plug and the wife saw a puddle of oil in garage. Took it back to dealer and they said it was fine. Long story but they ended up replacing the oil pan on a brand new car because they cannot do simple tasks. I’ve never had a good experience from a GM maintenance department.

So, I always change my own oil and do my own work.
I can F it up but at least I know I did and can fix it before destroying other items.

Oil change myself, check!

option 2-3. Take my own oil and filter to the dealer. I retired from changing my own oil 12 years ago. Dealer charges <$25 and they've been trustworthy.
