SLP Blackwing CAI

Hi Guys,

I saw this AD on the new SLP Blackwing CAI for V6 Camaro 2010 and wanted to share with you this info.

http://www.afterthoughtsauto.com/slp...induction.html

It includes a filter and a tube, and I guess this will not harm the GM warranty since both items are consumables and not originally covered by GM.

It says that it could add up to 10HP to the 3.6L engine, hope it is true!!

The sale price is $179.96

Please feel free to comment.

Like the idea... don't care for the texture of the tube... And the price is pretty steep...

key word is "could"... doubtful you would see any gain... thinking this would be more of an appearance mod...

Yeah, your not going to see 10hp gain. Heck, even full blown CAI's in the Jannetty testing thread on average didn't make that. Peak avg. from that test
was under 9 hp.

My man!!

The tube looks something similar to your experiment CAI , at least you managed to get rid off that crazy tumor. I guess that the stock air filter was used to blow baloons with that funny extension as well as bumping the 3.6L engine

so that should add at least a poney!

The filter could add up something similar to the K&N magic.

I think that I need to try this thing, open air filters will do me nothing in this desert. We can hardly find cold water during the summer days so what about cold air??

It peaked to 57C and I repeat 57 C not F, the engine heat is cooler than the air outside

Maybe GM should invent a freezer for the air box to be installed in the boot.

I heard GM was coming out with the DIIS, Dry Ice Injection system.

The horsepower gain isn't from the tube, it's from the logo....

raised SLP Blackwing logo providing up to a 10 horsepower gain.

I wonder if that includes the sticker that will more then likely come with it, or is that 5hp seperate?

All jokes aside, I've actually considered this. It's cheaper then a CAI, it solves the factories two biggest issues, the silencer and the stock filter, and I don't think it looks all that bad. Still up in the air about it, thinking I might a DashHawk before anymore performance mods.

I'm actually curious about this as well. Sure, it may not be quite as efficient as other CAIs....who knows... but won't removing the silencer reduce some of the turbulence inside the intake along with maybe getting a bit more air through the filter?

scrming..I can't remember, but didn't your stock intake tube experiment (removing the silencer) show some potential or am I dreaming that? lol

(EDIT: So I went and viewed scrming's thread on the above expirement, and at that time you achieved your best 0-60 run, so whether that was a coincidence or not...it surely didn't hurt!)

I guess I'm just not 100% convinced that the full CAI's are worth it or not. (and maybe this isn't either lol, but its around 100 bucks cheaper) Some with the CAIs claim they feel a difference while others say it didn't do much more than improve the looks...

It did indeed, scrming's intake experiment. His 0-60 times dropped a little. Enough to make a difference.

Yeah, I think smoothing out the intake path is a good way to make an extra pony or two.

Has it been proven that removing an acoustic isolator/resonator/"tumor" improves airflow or is the general assumption that a louder intake system must be generating greater horsepower?

Again, according to scrming's intake experiment where he removed the silencer, his 0-60 times dropped. So something worked by removing it. Don't know what else to say until I do something similiar and get it on the dyno. Even then, I think actual performance numbers trump dyno pulls.

No hard proof as in dyno... but probably not enough gain to show up on the dyno... my dyno sessions can have a swing of 6 or 7 RWHP... However my 0-60 tests have improved a slight but consistent amount...

scrming, just bought the 2.0 bro. Must have watched you drive with yours on it like 50 damn times until I finally took out my credit card. Shit man, now that I finally ordered it I want it here now. lol Tell me the truth, is it that much less then the 1.0? I was hesitating on which one but didnt want it annoying the neighbors, hence I went with the 2.0. you really cant tell with the videos cus the mic can distort the sound by making it different. Like sometimes your own voice sounds different on video, u know what I mean buddy? Anyway, got a sore throat and playing with my balls here bored as hell on a sat night. need to be out finding chickys in the camaro with some bad ass pipes. peace bro
