Transmssion Blew up and almost my engine too!!!

Hey guys!! This is one of my first times posting on here but I gotta share this so people are aware. I own a 2010 2SS 6l80e. The car has 31k miles on it, and as of early November the transmission fried itself. Now I did install a cam kit in early 2021 and ran the car like that for just over a year and I would say it ran quite well. The cam wasn't that big but it did cause the brakes to push through and shaking at stops. This gets me to the next point. I decided in july this year to go ahead and install a FTI 3600 Stall Triple Disk converter. I personally Installed it and installed an inline auxiliary transmission cooler. This is when I started to have issues. This car was remotely tuned by PCM of NC. It always has been tuned through them. I had them also tune the car for the new converter. The car ran somewhat fine after a few logs back and forth, I drove around 1500 miles on the car with the new converter before disaster struck. I was driving the car and did a WOT pull, once the car hit about 65mph the car lost all power and was shifting very erratically. It was like i was slamming on the brakes and then flooring it. I limped the car home and once I got it in the drive way I noticed it had no neutral or reverse. I knew it was toast at that point. Fast foward I bring the car to a local shop that specialized in late model Gm performance. I had them install a built transmission and new circle D 3000 Stall single disk converter. When the car hit the dyno for tuning the tuner said that he never saw a tune so aggressive before on the engine and transmission. Not only was all the TQ management disabled but the engine tune was CRAZY. The car had 30 degrees of timing at WOT. He said he been doing this a long time and never saw a tune like that. He said that I was lucky it didn't cause engine damage. Not only did the car make more power at lower timing (pulled 6 degrees out) but its safer. Now I'm starting to wonder if this whole time the TUNE caused my issue. This fix was NOT CHEAP!!!! transmission was 3200$, Converter 600$( Not to mention the fti which was 1400$), (install, new transcooler and tune) came out to 3500$. All in Im looking at around $6700 Everyone reading this. I DO NOT RECCOMEND HAVING THE CAR TUNED VIA REMOTE SUCK IT UP AND GET A PROPER DYNO TUNE AND A GOOD TUNER THAT IS FAMILAR WITH THE 6L80!!!!!!!

I have had all the torque reduction stuff on my transmission turned off for 2 years and for 20k miles with 171k miles on the tranny and just recently installed a triple d 3600 converter with no problems so far. I also have what they say is too much pressure in the transmission which I know GPI runs around the same pressures I do because they tuned my car in 2020. So I don't think that disabling the torque reduction will hurt your transmission. What I would be careful is where your tanny lock up the converter. I have mine set to only 6th gear and at 55 mph and release at 50 mph.

The remote tune isn't the problem-it's the tuner. There have been plenty of dyno tunes gone bad due to the tuner's mistake If you are making modifications you really need to review your new tune and data log to insure everything is as it should be and always use a reputable tuner.

Yeah I just reviewed all 3 tunes. stock, old tuner and my new tuner. The old tuner disabled Tq management on the CT downshifts. I asked them about this and why it wasn't enabled and they said it was to help with smoother stops(Which it did stop smooth) This feature rev matches the transmission to the lower gear. I believe what was happening was since the trans wasn't matching the revs it was like just dumping the clutch on a manual transmission and causing excessive heat in the clutch packs which caused it to weld itself together. My new tuner re-enabled all the tq management features. Yes, the car does kinda jerk when coming to a stop(because the cam) but if it saves my trans im all for it

Yes, some people have luck with disabling the tq management. But long term its best to keep it enabled. Most tuners like JRE will say that disabling tq management will destroy the trans. I do agree with what you said about the converter especially if its stock

Yes, there is still a lot of bad tuners out there, even though this ecm has been out since 2006.

TM can be done many ways. Some of the tuners that say they don't shut it off, do still. I find the best way to keep the tran alive is to adjust the torque table's. ( not TM). Even adjusting the torque table's can make a cam smooth out at idle in an auto car.

Like I said earlier I have had tq reduction off and all tq mang tuned out except for timing pull on the tcs for 22k miles on my transmission that has 172k miles on it and it shifts very good. And 2k miles ago I installed a 3600 stall converter and now it shifts even better then ever. I also have the closed throttle downshifts turned off as well because I didn't like the way it drops rpm when coming to a stop. So I wouldn't say that it's a necessary for everyone.
