Possible engine swap?
So I was thinking...
Would it be possible to swap the new engine for the camaro into a 4th gen camaro/firebird? I currently own a 1998 Pontiac Firebird 3.8L. The engine is 200hp, 100 less then the new v6. I love the car, but to put one of these new engines in and do some other mod's would really pump up the power in it. Plus, I dont have to worry about a warrenty or anything. |

Anything is possible. Crate motors are readily available, There are a few recent threads here from people who are crate motor distributors.
The tricky part is getting the harness to work with existing electronics and gauges. As I'm sure you already know having just bought a house, You can do anything with enough money.

Check out Crate Engine Depot. They'll sell you any engine you like and a lot of the parts for them.

I checked pricing for you but I think it would be cheaper to swap to a LS1. GM#12621267 would run you 4000.00 and retails for 4305.00 but that doesn't include the accessories, wiring and controller that you would need. The only affordable option is a used motor from a CTS and it would still be cheaper to swap a LS1. Price may go down when they begin producing the Camaro 3.6 and would drop alot if they began offering it in a RPO crate. Hope that helps.

If people can toss all these other engines in there, you can easily put in an L99 or LS3. Why you would do that, I'm not too sure. If you already have an LS1, just put on a blower and you'd be fine. Either that or just a head/cam swap w/ a tune and headers. But, sure you could put in a new engine. Don't forget all the extras that are going to come along w/ changing out an engine (like mentioned above). |
