Weighing The Z28
This has probably been done a million times, but with my friend's four corner scales we weighed two Z28 cars. Both with AC and between 50-75% fuel on board.
The black car was 3791 lbs (50% fuel), and the silver Z28 (75%fuel) was 3820lbs with stock seats and battery. The black car has recaro pole positions and anti-gravity battery. But also has two amplifiers for the sound system. As a reference, here is the press release information from Chevrolet: Curb weight (lb / kg): 3820 / 1732 (without air cond.) https://media.chevrolet.com/media/us...2015.tab1.html Just for reference we weighed a Porcsche 911 991.2 GT3 with full tank (extended range 23.7 gallon), half cage, AP 5000R brakes, magnesium wheels, PDK at 3239lbs. |

I got mine into the low 3500 range but it wasn't really driveable. Had ,maybe 1/8th tank of gas, had a battery that would barely start the car, etc.
There's a lot of weight to shave by running a set of 18" wheels, and lighter tires. I run a Falken 660 on the factory 19" wheels. I have a set of 18" Apex wheels with Yokohama A052's and each corner is around 8lbs lighter.

I have to agree Joelster with your first paragraph's concluding point, it's probably the law of diminishing returns beyond where the car is now. Anymore desire for Z28 weight loss would be better invested on a lighter car.

Or you can just increase the power to weight ratio!

True, but think about it like this...... If you increase the power, your vehicle goes faster in a straight line. But if you decrease the weight, it goes faster in a straight line, stops quicker, and is slightly more nimble left to right. Not to mention it's a little easier on the tires. Our cars punish tires! I just removed my A/C which was a pain in the ass. I put everything in a box, and I'm guessing it's around 35-40lbs give or take. Any weight you can get off of the front end is worth it. Taking weight off of the ass with a lightweight battery and less fuel tends to throw off the balance of the car from my experience. The car is not as neutral when you do that. I run my fastest times with a full tank of gas and the factory battery. Now that I have more weight off of the nose, I'll start playing around with a lighter battery again.
