perfect name! lately the local one just pi**es me off! all the parts ive bought from them and still no breaks went thru berger chevrolet in michigan and was treated like a king and was helped where they could. bought new fuel injectors thru rock auto same ones for less than half price . fuel rail summit racing 100.00 cheaper. coils lets talk coils. 80+ for coils? gimme a break. getting new delphi for 28.79 gm- 85.55 suck! no reason for them to do that to us loyals. oh by the way 3 year 36k warranty on parts.

The dealerships have allot of overhead and are low volume sellers. Places like Rock Auto have low overhead and are such high volume sellers that often times you can buy the same part from Rock Auto for less than your local dealer can buy through their distributers.

I used to work in a parts department for a GM dealer, short story is that they aren't really there to sell parts to you, they are mostly there to sell to the bigger spenders like body shops and various mechanics where they drop prices considerably from what you typically would pay since they can guarantee continuous orders in ranges of 1000s of dollars easy which in turn helps cover logistical cost per item. They do sell to regular people but they do it at considerable markup to disencourage you buying stuff in low volumes wasting them having to ferry parts between warehouses and dealing with delivery logistics, going with non dealer options, when available will always be best for an average joe.

I was in and around the Class 8 truck parts business for 40 years. It used to be the same scenario with trucks but they wised up and went into the parts business to be COMPETITIVE! You can walk into virtually any Paccar dealer (Pete / KW) or Volvo, etc. and find OE or aftermarket parts for your rig. I will admit, many of the "will fit" parts are Chinese junk. So there's that.

Back in the late 80s/early 90s, when 2nd gen cars were cheap (For example: I bought a 76 T/A for $300 in 1992 and it was a solid driver.) I was wishing I had the real estate to start buying the dead ones and storing them for a few years as I knew they would become the next hot item, even as much as we hated the late 2nd gens when I was in high school. Fast forward to today and now I am wishing the same thing about the gen 5 cars. I'd love to have the space and money to store a bunch of non-runners and wrecks for 10 years. I don't know if it would do me any good, but it damn sure would be a gold mine for my kids.
