93 Firebird

4th Gen Firebird on Barrett Jackson with less than 60 miles just sold for. $16,000. It was a base V-6. Makes me wonder what the Camaro will do in 17 years

Well, if you have one with only 67 miles on it, it might be worth something.

The base price plus virtually not driving the car for 17 years for a lousy 16k? No thanks.

I was asking for $12,000 for my '02 Trans Am with some SLP mods and 45k on it but sold it for $15,500 after a little bidding war. Now I wish I had kept it. A friend of mine in Cali has began to hoard f'birds and expects to make alot soon.

What a complete loss of money/time/excitement/storage space

My 98 Z-28 cost me $23,000.00 in 1998. That makes me think that the F-bird V-6 probably sold for around the $16,000.00 back when it was new. I would guess that $16,000.00 Gen 4 dollars (2002 at the latest) would now equal at least $24,000.00 in 2010 dollars. So all the person had to do was buy a new car, not enjoy driving it and they will get back 2/3 of what they paid for it. My 2010 SS is not meant to be a collector's item. It is for my enjoyment. If it becomes valuable somewhere down the road, I will not be the one making any money on it because I plan on keeping it forever. Remember, when you see a Gen 1 selling for thirty or forty grand, the money is equal to about three to four grand in 1960's dollars and that is what they used to cost new. So go drive your Gen 5's, that is what they were made for. Go to the drag strip. Have fun, do not natter around in them like the old farts in the new Corvettes do.

I tried to do that once. Bought a Firebird Formula brand new in 2001. Was convinced in 20 years it would be a collectors item. I only drove it enough to keep it running right. Never saw rain, never parked in a parking lot, etc...... In April of last year it had about 8,000 original miles and was absolutely flawless.

Looked like this April 19, 2009:

And like this April 24, 2009:

I won't do that again. In hindsight, I wish I had used and enjoyed it a lot more than I did.

Keep the mileage low and the value will be high.

Wildfire came through the neighborhood. 76 houses were lost including mine. Had about 10 min warning to evacuate. Had 3 cars and could only take one.

Holy crap That makes me a little sick to my stomach.

I had a 2002 Red Firebird - It was my first car so I definately got its use out of it. I was heartbroken when I had to trade it in for my new baby. Really wanted to keep it but couldn't afford double insurance nor the keep up for 2 cars :( I did however jot down the VIN before I let her go, so I'm hoping a few years down the line I can start hunting her down. . .assuming she's still out there running somewhere
